Important features things in a reliable browser are being ignored, this is where Vivaldi is lacking. I cannot send even three tabs to any device. (I tried it a little while ago.)
I wonder, when they are going to think over this!
This feature is in our pipeline. It means that we'd like to implement something similar to the things proposed in this topic. Once the work starts, we will provide more information.
This request has been moved to the pipeline, which means that we will look into providing a method for exporting & importing user settings without having to rely on Sync. Once the work starts, this topic will be tagged as "In progress".
Update: although the internal report pointing to this topic was resolved as "Will not do" (and consequently marked here us as such by the moderator), we haven't ultimately decided not to find a solution for this. In order to clarify the situation, I have changed the status to "Nice to have", as it's a fairly popular request. Once we decide we want to actually implement it, we will change its status to "Pipeline". 🙂
@Ayespy said in Synchronization of entire history:
I think (unless you understand better by now) you have so far imagined that Vivaldi could employ existing Chrome sync code to do sync work - simply plug in Chrome code as it were, and sail on without difficulty. Flip a switch. Cake. This is simply impossible. This is why Vivaldi had to write its own sync code and buy and deploy its own server farm to run it. This took over a year - and it's a work in progress. More and more things are synced with pretty much every update. This progress will continue. We may or may not ever reach a state that pleases everyone, but we will reach a state wholly supported by Vivaldi's code and servers. And month to month, year to year, it is likely to continue to be refined as the Vivaldi code and storage structure continues to evolve in response to changes in OSes, Chromium and user requests.
Thank you. As I said before, synchronising history is more than just a wish for me. I understand that the developers are focusing on things that have higher priority, but I am glad to hear that this is in the works.
Look how this was implemented in the outdated Sidewise Tree Style Tabs extension and make similar. Nowadays there's nothing comparable in terms of usability. Everything I saw is a joke except Sidewise. Too bad Sidewise isn't usable in Vivaldi (yes, you can add it in side panel, but it's very unstable and glitchy, it was originally made for Chrome and was abandoned by it's author Joel Thornton. Though it's now opensourced under FOSS license). Seriosly, Vivaldi browser + working Sidewise could be everything any power user or "Tab Hoarder" could dream of.
@pauloaguia Yes, that's correct; don't know why they made it such that the "Closed Tabs" only stores its entries for a few days only... It's not like they're storing our browsing history on their expensive servers that they're so keen on saving redundant storage costs... I personally won't mind a bit if my Vivaldi profile started using up a couple more GBs on the hard disk... They should totally remove the artificial limitations they've put in place on the "Closed Tabs" Trash-icon thing...
Ah, thanks. I'm used to bringing up search with the shortcut, didn't look for the search field. It would be useful to bring focus to the search field when using the keyboard shortcut, but as is it is good enough.
@Totto See the help file on how to perform Mouse Gestures
Click the RMB over the link, then complete the gesture by move the mouse up or down, or whatever you have assigned to the command.
