Bookmark bar - Drag
-
It is from 2020. Earlier This feature was already requested by otheres, which is a basic functionality in ALL OTHER BROWSERS. I love Vivaldi and way how it is intuitive and helps creativity and the Workspace feature is a must-have.
However if somebody like me try to switch from other browser to Vivaldi this lack of feature (positioning bookmark to a folder) is very frustrating and this is why I use Vivaldi as a secondary browser. I cannot believe you cannot put this one function into the code that is already solved by all other devs.
For years...

@rwyro said in Bookmark bar - Drag:
positioning bookmark to a folder
Please explain in some steps what you want to do.
Do you mean: drag from address field to a bookmark bar folder, the folder opens and you can drop the bookmark?Works with dragging onto Bookmark Panel icon, next on folders to open them and the you can drop the bookmark.

Hi,
You can drag and drop the bookmark into a folder on Bookmark Bar, however you cannot decide where to put it, it is by default put to the first place but you cannot put it to an exact place.
For example into a subfolder. You should first drop into the folder (where it is placed to be the first bookmark) then you should open the folder and then you can drag and drop into the subfolder....where you should open the subfolder and put it the right place... That is nonsense.
If you check Firefox, Chrome, Edge etc.... all other browsers allow you to drag the bookmark and place it anywhere on the bookmark bar. Into the folder, subfolder, to a position anywhere you like. Only Vivaldi lacks this feature despite the fact multiple users requested this basic functionality.
Always got the answer how we can solve this "issue" with multiple steps, which is not the solution but a tiresome detour.
Please consider to put that little code part that can be found on the net and interpret into Vivaldi. That is easy. (I know, and not a time consuming work, just you need to decide to do that.)

@rwyro Yes, Vivaldi's bookmarks bar does not work exactly like other browsers. Maybe drag+drop of bookmarks will be improved at some time.
Try using the bookmarks panel or manager to organize your bookmarks.
https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/bookmarks-speed-dial/bookmarks/You can use the Add Active Tab option to add a bookmark in a specific folder. IMO much easier than using drag+drop, less chance to get things in the wrong place, you can just select the folder you want it in.

@rwyro To place a bookmark precisely where you want it in a Bookmark Bar folder.
- Open the target folder on the Bookmark Bar
- Right-click on the Bookmark, after which you wish to add the new bookmark
- Select New Bookmark
- Edit the bookmark title, add a description and a nickname if you wish

Thank you Pesala, this helps a lot, and the most comfortable solution so far. Will use it until Vivaldi improve the drag and drop function.
Note: I appreciate the prompt responses and your dedication in managing the forum. However, I must express my confusion regarding the significant effort and the prolonged duration it takes to implement a seemingly straightforward functional improvement. More complex solutions were released over the years while this feature has remained unaddressed for such a long time.

@rwyro There are thousands of feature requests, tens of thousands of bugs, but only twenty-four developers for Windows, Linux, Mac, and Android. Here are the most upvoted feature requests.

There is no information about how to search for a link/s within a directory, if one uses directories to group bookmarks by context.
Seems like pretty basic stuff and Vivaldi, a great favorite of mine browser, has this one critical thing missing.I know every browser has some interpretation of how Bookmarks should be searched, but it is in fact very simple: we search by directories/folders' names(as they hold the general idea of links we collect there or a grouping of generalizations - directories), tags as identifiers of information describing the link BUT not necessarily within the context of our current thinking pattern (for that we use the directories and the groupings of such) and last but not least parts of the link.
It shouldn't be that hard, is it?An extra feature would be the date of the bookmarking as it differs from the date of the browser history. The history might be 10k links the bookmarks might be 5 links. Would you rather search through 10k links or 5 bookmarks of that time period? This is all there is about the basics of browser bookmark searching.
Please, push fixing the fundamental Bookrmark's search functionality forward. I know you must be overwhelmed with work but this is absolutely critical for users to prefer a browser as a tool to hold their information in a useful manner, 2nd only to actively interact with the web through Vivaldi.
That is my humble opinion.
