Hi, which version of Vivaldi do you use, there was a bug some time ago but it is fixed now.
Did you create a name for the file, like important_key.txt for example?
Iirc you had to logout/in to Vivaldi sync to get this sorted out.
Be careful, you have to know your encryption password to login again.

No, you will not get back deleted passwords from database with a program.

With Sync you can restore password database if you know your account and encryption password (i hope you noted it some where in a safe place).
Just delete the file Login Data in Vivaldi profile folder, start Vivaldi, start Sync and sync only selected data Passwords.
Works, i tested it minutes ago.

@jane-n Aha! Approaching problem from opposite direction - excellent.

Same Standalone version on Notebook obviously required (and allowed me to enter) an Encryption Password and I was then able to select only 'Apps' (so as to minimise any unfortunate consequences). On the Desktop I found on Setting/Sync page that Vivaldi Account Log Out and then Login had to be performed first before a request for pre-existing Encryption Password appeared.

Sync proceeded and the node contents dump no longer shows 'Setup in progress' plus 'Sync First-Time Setup Complete' is now true. Many thanks.

@Reay Every time you install a new instance of Vivaldi, it includes these links. If you don't want them, you want to delete them from the new version before you sign in to sync.

You might care to know that use of these custom links Vivaldi's source of income. It how it keeps the doors open and the lights on. But Vivaldi, being who they are, don't force anything on you. 🙂

Although not as strongly related I don't get duplicates when connecting a new device (like my phone) but all my speed-dial entries are removed / reset to default. I did this 4 days apart: Set up Vivaldi on my main machine, set up sync, edit bookmarks, use it. Four days later I install Vivaldi on my phone/tablet, login to sync. Next day I turn on my main machine, open Vivaldi and all my tabs are closed and my bookmarks were gone. As if the sync from my phone wouldn't care. Fortunately I did set up a session backup (I would have been really miffed if my X workspaces with my YYY tabs were lost).

Interesting, that after many updates, remnants of sending function remain in Vivaldi Android. I've just installed Vivaldi on another computer and, after syncing, I can see it on mobile but sending tabs doesn't work, of course. Because there is no progress on sharing tabs between devices, maybe an option to close tabs on other devices would be feasible? In a way it would be a "negative" of typical sharing - instead of sending a new tab to another device we could close unnecessary or read one on the far end.

Thanks -- That should cover the PC with a bit more work. We still need two other elements: An API to show all the devices' sync state. Then also, a means of calling these on an Android device.

I fixed the problem, Old School.
I exported the bookmarks that I wanted for Vivaldi from Brave. Then opened that export file, opened each bookmark and then Bookmarked it in Vivaldi on my android tablet.
I did that in less time than I spent screwing with the Vivaldi sync. It is a great concept but I'm too old to waste what little time I have left messing with in in Vivaldi or Brave.
I'm also not going to waste even more time providing details about the problem that I encountered. Thanks for the reply to my comment; at least you care enough to do that.

Sync server could have had some issue or software update yesterday, perhaps that us the cause of re-login needed.

Hi, reset the remote data delete the data on the server not local.
All what you have in your running version on the desktop is local.
I have done this many times, reset remote Data, connect again, choose an new encryption password what you can remember.
Then sync the mobile device.
Saving my encryption key on desktop and use it on mobile work too for me, tested a few minutes ago.
If this is not working for you do it manually, I use this key only for testing.

@mib2berlin Thank you, I tried to use this trigger in manual mode and realized that in my case it works only in manual mode, no automatic update is performed.
But still, the synchronization of deleted history works weirdly.
To speed up the tests, I decided to use different profiles in the same browser on the same device.

Authorized in empty new profiles 1 and 2 Deleted all history, pressed the GetUpdates trigger Logged into profile 2, waited 1+ hour, nothing changed, all the history was still there, checked the synchronization tab in the settings, the synchronization time was updated, so the changes should have been downloaded, but it didn't happen. After that, I manually pressed the GetUpdates trigger, and only then did the history from profile 2 disappear. Next, I opened 10 random sites in profile 1, clicked GetUpdates, switched to profile 2, clicked GetUpdates - the history of 10 links appeared in profile 2. In profile 1, I deleted the last 5 entries in the history, GetUpdates, switched to profile 2, GetUpdates - the history has been updated, 5 links remain - correct. I checked the local history sqlite files in both profiles - there are only 5 links in the history - correct The most interesting thing. I created a new profile 3, logged in, and 10 records were displayed in the history again, instead of 5. I additionally manually clicked GetUpdates in profiles 1, 2 and then in 3, but no changes: profile 1 - 5 records in the history, profile 2 - 5 records, profile 3 - 10 records.

I will continue testing, maybe I can figure it out.

As for Vivaldia, I suppose I could set up a VM to test this out once I get the time, and if nobody has the answer yet I'll report back here.

I just checked this, and it looks like the vivaldia high score doesn't sync. (It did say something went wrong with sync and I had to re-enable it, but it appeared to sync everything else fine, so I don't think that had any impact)
