I wonder: Can anybody from non-EU countries check, if the move to allow other browser engines is just implemented in the European market like the external AppStores? Or is it a global thing?

I already wondered, why even Google or Firefox didn't port their engines to iOS. Basically, the fundamental parts of the system are very similar to macOS and since Apple Silicon the engines both have ARM-versions available as well. So beside packing the engine files to the App making it larger, the port itself should not be the biggest problem.

But could it be that nobody did it yet because you had to create two apps, basically? One for the international market with the WebKit engine and one for EU market with Blink, Gecko and so on? Would make maintaining the Apps a nightmare and THAT would be the real time consumer then.

It's happening on Android, too., with me. But it seems to be in some kway of sync related.

If you already have an account you don't need to repeat the same process again.
You just need to login, when i do it i do not have to receive a verification mail.
Just go to sync settings, login, and that's (did it on my phone just now), i'm guessing ipad should do the same.

If you try to do another account again it might fail and not send the mail because it already exists.
This is all guessing though, as i cannot try on tablet.

Same problem, I used it for 1 day and the cache occupied more storage than safari that I had been using.

Unfortunately no. Vivaldi on iOS is only compatible with iOS versions 16.0 and up.

I have a similar issue with MitID in Denmark. However, I get logged on but the Authenticator MitID open Chrome after I accepted the logon. Safari /Chrome doesn’t open Chrome.

The scheme support says Vivaldi doesn’t fulfill the technical requirements.

Vivaldi just replied they weren’t able to reproduce the error. I don’t think they have MitID as you need to be a Danish citizen.

Yes, Workspaces are only available on the desktop version of Vivaldi.
If you use Sync, you can see all the tabs you have open in Workspaces on desktop and open them on iOS, but unfortunately at the moment, they're not organized and grouped by Workspaces in Vivaldi on iOS' Tab Switcher > Synced Tabs.

That's correct. Proton VPN is only available in the desktop version of Vivaldi.

@She0 technically this is extremely challenging. Orion by Kagi is the only browser on iOS with extension support right now. They are working for a few years on that already, but every iOS browser is forced to use Safari‘s engine, WebKit. That engine supports less and sometimes other features than Firefox or Chrome extensions are built with. That’s a limitation Apple would need to fix.

So basically you’d need to force Apple to help support extensions because nobody else can fix this.

@Viqsi Yes, we need support for 1Password in order to use Vivaldi as a default browser.
