Your suggestion would still use up more display area than necessary when you don't need the tabbar. A better solution is automate floating vertical tabbar. This GUI will use no space to very little space when you don't need the tabbar, saving most of the precious display area for the webpage display. Here are some examples how it looks:

Hide the entire tabbar when not needed, point at the left/right edges to reveal the tabbar:

or shrink the tabbar into just favicon when not needed:

I think it's best when the tabbar is shrink into just 2 columns of favicon width for stacked tabs.

Hi. I like your ideas but these are three feature requests and should be one.
I like the "Phone tab group" request but I hate colors, how should I vote? 🙂

Did you try the menu Settings in Vivaldi? (type menu in the search box or look under appearance).
The menu that shows up when clicking the Vivaldi button is even the default option for me.

I can do that but TBH I'm not sure if this will be considered a bug.

Although it doesn't mean much but I also checked this behavior in other browsers. Firefox doesn't show a new tooltip but if I move my mouse pointer even by 1px, the new tooltip shows up. Chrome is pretty smart though. When I have fewer tabs, it waits for a second or so before showing the popup thumbnail but if I have many tabs, it works exactly the way I want.

Option to Autohide Tab Bar / UI

OK, new idea to address the problem...

What if we were able to access the preview of a tab stack by swiping up / down from tab bar?

Keep the Tabs button functionality as it is..... just add a swipe gesture to swipe from a tab bar that opens the tab previews of the currently active stack rather than all tabs.

I mean, that's great if you like that (and have a nice wide screen), but not everyone does. I personally just... can't get used to using a sidebar for finding my tabs, and it also isn't as useful in my opinion for CLOSING a bunch of them once they're open. I'll admit though, the tiled previews from tab stacking is super useful and probably the best way to find stuff I've seen with the horizontal bar. Still, if you have a bunch of different tab groups, you still need either scrolling (which doesn't work well with a mouse, for some reason) or to show more of them at once via shrinking... and you can't currently do both at once, or have it transfer as one becomes more useful than the other.
