this reload workaround only works on some sites.

the problem sites are ones with menus like product menus (think online stores) or maybe things inside of forms that drop down. not all such sites are problematic after reload, but many still are.

For an example of a browser that can translate pretty much all sites including menus, etc.. I would point to google chrome

@DeerWhale Translate works fine on selected text for the linked PDF file.

I do not think it is feasible to make the translate page feature to work on a PDF, as it is not a webpage.

No doubt, someone who knows will tell us if it is possible. Either way, this may be something only the Chromium developers can do, as they wrote the plugin.

Translate history is then cleared on restarting Vivaldi. Make a bookmark to vivaldi://restart to use whenever you want to clean up.

I know that it's easier said than done.

This now works in the latest Snapshot. The translation dialog appears at the top left of the screen, even when the Panel is on the right, but at least it works.

@vdk100 It is not possible at the moment, even modifying by vivaldi://translate-internals and removing the interface language does not work. There is some block imposed by the programmers

I think remembering the target language would be the best option. Same for the in-text translator.

You can use other translation engines in a Web Panel. DeepL is often recommended for the quality of its translations. Bing is OK IMO - it offers a huge range of languages. Vivaldi has its own to preserve privacy for its users. User data is sent to Vivaldi’s dedicated servers, and none of their data is shared with others. This may not be the case with other options.

@agych Also if used on text in text input fields it will appear on the top left corner of the page.

please add the ability to keep the most clicked on languages at the top of the dropdown box. The list of languages is huge, most people will only use a handful of languages.

Translation is one of those things that people do all the time, if they need to do it.

Even sometimes you can "lose" the language that was being used, and have to select it again - this happens when automatic is used.

So to be able to quickly find the language would be great. I know you can press the first letter but it would be better to add the most recently used languages at the top.

I think it would make sense to have a limit.. like say 4 or 5 MRU languages that get added at the top. If there was no limit, it could really mess up the whole language list from aberrant clicks or whatnot.

I do not think having the user manually configure a list of their favourite languages makes more sense than just maintaining an MRU list of languages selected by the user
