@x-15a2 , @CheVe11e_191, is @Pesala really a Vivaldi's ambassador? if so I really sad I misunderstood what's Vivaldi represent and purposes.
-
@diusonem I am just keeping it real. People need to understand the way things are.
With 5,016 feature requests, and a small team, those needed by few users or difficult to implement may have to wait for a long time. Wherever you see that a feature is tagged as In Progress, it may get done this year rather than next.
This topic is still tagged as Pipeline, which means it is still on the back-burner. If anything changes, and the developers actually start work on it, the tag should be changed to In Progress.
-
Wow. I was surprised when realised that vivaldi does not have so basic feature.
-
Sorry for bumping this, but there are still people out here wishing for that feature
Thanks!
-
Really sorry to bump once again, but the pot I am sitting in is starting to boil!
This would be my most missed feature in Vivaldi transitioning from other browsers. -
@mias31 at this point it should be clear it's deemed useless/very low priority by the devs, as there's already "show in file manager" next to the files still in the download directory, from there you can delete all the downloaded files from the download dir as you please.
No need to add a redundant menu item.
I would suggest to start learning to use a real filemanager like Total Commander or Far Manager to manage your files, always have one open to quickly go to the download directory and manage your files from there, instead of from the web browser, which by definition, it's not a file manager. -
Hello @iAN-CooG, thank you for your comment! I can't follow your presented logic to the full extent, as that would make the dashboard and mail integration equally superfluous as we already have a desktop and dedicated mail clients
Maybe I have not expressed myself well enough, please let me retry:
For work I need to download a huge quantity of files daily, where most of the time I can get rid of them right away after having visually scanned through them, so switching to explorer, searching for the specific filename deleting in there, coming back to Vivaldi and removing the item again from the downloaded list is a true hassle - like sprinkling sand into machine gears.
Here’s how Firefox solves it – maybe that implementation detail helps. (Apologies for the German i11n → "Löschen" means "delete file from disk", where Vivaldi would only have "Aus Chronik entfernen" which in this context would translate "delete from download list" like Vivaldi does).
If I click that, the file gets deleted instantly from the directory I have downloaded this file into.
It may have the lowest or no priority for the devs at all, but they should know that this is important to at least some of their users. If Vivaldi would be open source I’d be happy to prototype it myself - that’s how much I’d love to see it...
Thanks for hearing me out! -
@mias31 Please don't blame the Devs... they get the development priorities from the Product Managers, who clearly don't believe that this feature request has merit (or, they simply don't understand the functionality or the need).

@x-15a2 thank you for the reply. I am sorry, I did not mean to blame the devs. I hence redirect my blame onto the product managers!
@barbudo2005 Thank you as well for your reply, but you got my requirements wrong. I don't need a file manager to basically do
rm *.pdf
or whatever. Firstly I have many different file formats as I work in the German Energy Industry and I must not delete all of the same extension but only some.I really do appreciate your efforts to show how to solve that problem though thank you. But I was not asking for "any way to solve this problem" but I am specifically requesting a feature. Last time I checked, this is the feature request forum after all
So I would like to have this feature. I don't demand it, I don't demand a due date, I simply want to contribute that I am not the only one, that would really have their Vivaldi workflows enhanced with this feature
So that I can get rid of FF for good, as this seems to be the only thing of worth to me from it. Even if that means that I have to wait another year or even longer for it, as much as it pains me.
Anyways, thanks for listening and happy easter holidays everybody!

searching for the specific filename deleting in there
If you double-click on the Show in File Manager icon, the file is already selected in the File Explorer, so no searching is required. Just delete, close explorer, and then remove it from the list. I get why you want an easier workflow if you download hundreds of files daily, but features with an easy workaround (for most use cases) don't get a high priority.
Many users don’t understand why they have to wait so long for top feature requests to get implemented. There are many reasons — it is not all about upvotes. Below is a list of features with more upvotes than this one. I can think of half a dozen at least I would rather have than this one. Each user has their own priorities. If you were the product manager, which would you attend to first?

@Pesala Thank you for the insight!
I never intended to rush this feature or force push it to the top of the priority list - just wanted to express how valuable it would be for my workflow. Glad to hear it's on the pipeline, even when its on very the bottom. I'm happy to wait until it fits the roadmap, thank you all!

@Pesala Thanks for this detailed information. As a (now retired) Product Manager for a cloud-based software development company, I understand and appreciate the information and explanation that you have provided. In fact, there are quite a few "critical" feature requests that I submitted during my years as a PM that are still on the "TBD" list, having never made it to the official product roadmap... while I continued to design features that I personally considered to be of lower priority. Many factors, including available resources, potential product impact, customer acceptance, marketing/sales impact, etc. come into play.
I personally see "Delete Disk Items" as a high priority issue, but also understand that many users infrequently download files and therefore see this at worst as a minor inconvenience. There are also extensions that can be used for the desired functionality.(But, it is nice to see it in the pipeline!)
Thanks again for this explanation. I've taken the liberty of posting this information in the VivaldiBrowser subReddit.
