That feature request has been implemented. The setting is called Always Show Controls.

How come this perfectly reasonable request has been here for 5 years and still not added? It's a necessary and common features now amongst mobile browsers.

Firefox has rudimentary themeing where you can apply an image / texture as a background on the main toolbar. It would be nice if vivaldi could plug into this, then they could have access to that whole library from the get go. If not, simple choosing of icon bg/fg colours would suffice.

There are still websites that, although it is set in the settings to always display the desktop version of the website, the mobile version is still displayed on an Android tablet.

@MikeZ I think that it's not always possible to hook into this process - in my Android version system opens own WebView in these cases...

@Pesala True. But that would imply that Vivaldi would have to be "always listening", which might be badly interpreted. (I trust Vivaldi. Dont get me wrong). Maybe a long press on the speed dial icon or smt ? Or, if that's even possible, bind it to google assistant.
