Not sure if about:blank works as a home page or not. But for sure vivaldi://startpage does not. It saves OK in the dialog, but gives an error whenever you push home page button. But then, if you press "enter" in the address bar while that error page is present, the speed dial appears. Weird.

Well, now that I try them both again in v1.0.156.2, I'll have to revise what I said above. I currently cannot get either about:blank or http://about:blank to work, even though http://about:blank worked in a previous version. (IIRC, it worked for me before without a Vivaldi restart, but An_dz previously reported it worked after a restart. In any case, I can't get it to work now even with a restart.)

As for vivaldi://startpage, that still "works" for me, but I have been testing it differently by hitting Ctrl+N to open a new window, rather than clicking the Home button. Yes, it should work with both, but now I'm getting the same results Ayespy described with the Home button. (I thought I recalled it was working before with the Home button in some previous version, but a quick check just now with 64-bit v1.0.142.32 yielded the same results as v1.0.156.2, so I'm probably mis-remembering.)

Initially, I was also finding the following with downloads (on a fresh v1.0.156.2 standalone installation):

•file download often starts then stalls and never completes, or only completes up to several minutes later
•file download often "starts" at 0 bytes and simply stalls immediately, apparently without downloading any bytes at all
•frequently multiple attempts (via Ctrl+S, context menu or Menu > Save As) are necessary to get a "Save As" dialog for a webpage; then after a long delay, multiple "Save As" dialogs pop up stacked over each other in same location on screen, only one of which will accept input in the filename text field (others must be cancelled to discover which one works, probably the "first" one)

I'm pretty sure I had noticed this occasionally in previous Vivaldi versions, but at first this version (v1.0.156.2) was nearly impossible to use for any downloading… ...oddly, after several hours of use, this problem improved considerably, which makes no sense to me at all [[i]maybe (?) when I closed Otter browser or Opera 12.17 I had running in the background (?)]. I think the stalled downloads mentioned in the first 2 items also improved, but I haven't been doing enough downloading since then to confirm that.

Start up with a decent sized session (~30 tabs spread between two windows) is very slow and works a bit oddly, for example I have two tabs for video playlists I'm working through, one is YouTube with the HTML5 player, one is a Flash player on another site. When I start Vivaldi, I can hear both of these videos start in the background (sounds from the videos are playing) before the program manages to even show a single window frame. Also usually one frame loads before the other one does, and stays solid white for about half a minute before showing the contents, after which the second window follows (usually the first window shown is the one without the video tabs, but they're loaded regardless).

I've been trying both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions, Win 8.1, 16 GB of ram, mildly OC'd i7.

Confirmed on my end. It's gone after a browser restart. But after a few minutes of browsing around the bug re-appears.

I suggest you report it via the Bug Wizard. Even if it's temporary, a bug is still a bug. 🙂

For me on that page there is no video, just an audio podcast. But as far as I can tell, it is working properly (32-bit Vivaldi v1.0.156.2 on 32-bit Win7).

If you're using Technical Preview 2 (v.1.0.118.19) as most new users are, try updating to the most recent Developer snapshot.

Vivaldi is developing rapidly and there have been numerous bug fixes and feature improvements since Technical Preview 2. Developer snapshots since then have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2.

Follow the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates.

Sometimes it's not just the About page but on others as well like the History page.

Happens on the latest build 1.0.156.2 and below.

I need to refresh it so the page would scale to normal.

Unfortunately the thumbnails aren't stored on FS one by one, but are buried inside the topsites file, hence the problems.

I really hope the devs will realize that the good old way of having them on a folder was a way better method.

I was afraid maybe they were in Top Sites, but thought I recalled finding them somewhere else back when I first started using Vivaldi (I'm probably thinking of the JumpListIcons).

I agree, they would be better in a separate folder, with individual image files for each.

Or maybe they could be kept in a dedicated Speed Dial image SQLite db file like most other things(?) …I'm not clear enough about SQLite or database files in general to weigh any pros and cons of that possibility.

It seems to me the Top Sites file is just too dynamic and volatile to ever be a reliable place to store them.

@Claus_Valca: Glad you came up with a workaround. But HaaEnn might be right about the folder change.

Up through v1.0.142.32 the standalone profile folder was named "Profile", and with v1.0.151.7 it was changed to "User Data". So if you were still at v1.0.142.32 or earlier before the v1.0.156.2 update, check for the existence of both folders.

If you have both folders, you can simply copy the relevant files (Bookmarks, Current Session, Current Tabs, etc.) from Profile\Default to User Data\Default to continue from where you already were (none of the Profile\Default sub-folders are needed).

Edit: If you like, you can also backup just the relevant files before updating as a safeguard.

Single-click from the Bookmarks panel has been requested several times and I'm sure it will eventually be available as an option (as will almost anything else that is commonly available in other browsers).

But keep in mind that for for nearly any option preferred one way by you, there will likely be someone else who wants a different option (e.g., I prefer double-click as it is now, so I can more easily highlight one or more bookmarks to open/move/delete at once (which can admittedly be done by click, hold, & drag on some single-click lists, but not my preferred method) and so I don't keep accidentally opening an unwanted bookmark when I'm simply attempting to highlight it.

That's what will eventually be one of Vivaldi's greatest strengths: its extreme customizability (probably matching or exceeding Olde Opera).

I haven't seen a list of minimum requirements, bit I've seen at least a few reports of Vivaldi working on WinXPsp3.

However, there may be a problem with chromium-based browsers on older CPUs without SSE2 support – see this thread.

Do other chromium-based browsers run on your machine? (Google Chrome, Opera 15+).

It might help if you could post a full description of your system specs and maybe specifically check whether the CPU has SSE2 support (introduced by Intel on Pentium 4 CPUs in 2001 per Wikipedia).

FWIW, I don't see any sliders in 32-bit v1.0.156.2 on 32-bit Win7 either. Don't know if they were ever there in any earlier version, as I had never looked.

It would be nice to know where are stored files keeping session information, backing them up would be nice workaround.

In Windows, Current Session and Current Tab (you could also back up Last Session and Last Tabs if you want). I'm not sure of the exact path in a standard Vivaldi installation but in a standalone installation they are in Profile\Default folder through v1.0.142.32 or User Data\Default folder beginning with v1.0.151.7.
