How to set startup page

  • For privacy I like to be able to set a specific page for start-up such as home page or blank. However when I start Vivaldi it always remembers the tabs that I had open. Is it possible to specify a start page such as blank or my home page? I am using Vivaldi Preview 2 with Elementray OS 0.3 "Freya" Once the bookmarks bug is solved and I know how to set a start page then Vivaldi would be my 1st choice browser. Really nice project thanks for all the hard work.

Sorry. So far, no other "open" options are offered other than "open most recent session." A ton of requests have been made to offer opening with speed dial or with a home page, and I'm sure this will be offered. Just not yet.

  • Your first post, so welcome! :)

The option to not open all tabs open at last exit is not yet available.

I can't recall if setting one's home page was working properly in TP2, but it is now (seems like maybe there were some bugs I no longer recall). You should be able to set Speed Dial as your homepage in the settings by using vivaldi://startpage or http://about:blank to use a blank page as your homepage (about:blank wasn't yet working properly in that setting a few versions ago, but http://about:blank should work).

For this and other reasons I would strongly recommend updating to the most recent Developer snapshot.

Vivaldi is developing rapidly and there have been numerous bug fixes and feature improvements since Technical Preview 2. Developer snapshots since then have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2.

Follow the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates.

Bookmarks working better now than in TP2 as well.

Not sure if about:blank works as a home page or not. But for sure vivaldi://startpage does not. It saves OK in the dialog, but gives an error whenever you push home page button. But then, if you press "enter" in the address bar while that error page is present, the speed dial appears. Weird.

Well, now that I try them both again in v1.0.156.2, I'll have to revise what I said above. I currently cannot get either about:blank or http://about:blank to work, even though http://about:blank worked in a previous version. (IIRC, it worked for me before without a Vivaldi restart, but An_dz previously reported it worked after a restart. In any case, I can't get it to work now even with a restart.)

As for vivaldi://startpage, that still "works" for me, but I have been testing it differently by hitting Ctrl+N to open a new window, rather than clicking the Home button. Yes, it should work with both, but now I'm getting the same results Ayespy described with the Home button. (I thought I recalled it was working before with the Home button in some previous version, but a quick check just now with 64-bit v1.0.142.32 yielded the same results as v1.0.156.2, so I'm probably mis-remembering.)
