As to renaming speed dials, it's really easy but not terribly intuitive. You can edit their labels in the side bar or in the bookmark manager (available from the speed dial screen) OR, you can simply click once on the label itself in speed dial, notice that it turns blue, and start typing whatever you want it to be!! Like olde Opera, most functions have multiple directions from which to approach them.

Good tip Ayespy! Surely I should have figured that out for myself :silly: I just tried right clicking on the thumbnail like in Opera and there was no rename option. But they should probably add that in there anyway.

As far as I can see, you didn't mention what Vivaldi version your feedback is based on, but many newcomers are using Technical Preview 2 because it is still the version offered on the Vivaldi - A new browser for our friends page.

If you're using Technical Preview 2, try updating to the most recent Developer snapshot.

Vivaldi is developing rapidly and there have been numerous bug fixes and feature improvements in the 8 Developer snapshots since Technical Preview 2 (v.1.0.118.19). Developer snapshots since then have generally been as stable, if not more stable, than TP2.

I'm not sure what release you were on, but notification of new update at Vivaldi startup was added 2 or 3 releases ago. Other than that, check the Team Blog for weekly updates (usually on Mondays) and occasional mid-week updates (or subscribe to their RSS feed).

@tardigrada: Ctrl+J doesn't open the Downloads Manager (I wish it did), just the Downloads Panel.

IIRC, some users have reported being unable to stop downloads from the panel.

It's integral to the browser engine, but not implemented yet.

Vivaldi 1.0.151.7 - Manage bookmarks

1. In the sidebar, right-click the new folder can not be created.
2. When I click the icon, and you'll get up, it is created. But naming is if I type fast, you can leave out letters.
3 Links in the bookmarks to click two to open up.
4. There is no way to sort order.
5. Save webpage folder selected in the sidebar is not possible.
6. In the search field can not be typed quickly as slow to respond.
7. All Collapse folder - you can not see the subfolders, because the main folder is closed.

Eliminating these problems, we get closer to the 12.x's bookmark manager. 🙂

Extensions are not officially supported yet, and for sure, NO extension UI functions are supported yet. Too many lines of code concerning the UI itself, or hooks concerning same that extensions could use, are yet to be written.

:lol: I'm pretty sure that while middle-click was already mentioned, I was the one who brought CTRL-click to the table (since I had been struggling on my two-button netbook and distinctly remember posting that CTRL-click works as well)… but I'll let it slide. 🙂

CTRL+LMB is as old as Macs.

Given they had a single button mouse for a couple of decades, Mouse Button+Something was a mandatory choice.

Well duh! But IIRC no-one had mentioned it when we were complaining about the missing "open in background" context option.

If you're this interested, it might be worth reading the developers' overview of their goals (if you haven't already).

While I'm with most of the others here in terms of wanting a feature-rich and option-rich browser (like Olde Opera 12.x and earlier, only updated for today's websites), my impression is that you are primarily interested in a "minimalistic" appearance (rather than "minimalistic" features and options). Otherwise, most of the features you mentioned are already available (though not necessarily mature and polished) or planned.

And even though Vivaldi is already quite minimalistic in appearance (IMO), it can be made more so by customizing your Vivaldi common.css file (to achieve results similar to your registry tweaks for IE 11).

Anyway, if I'm reading you right, I would expect that Vivaldi's emphasis on feature and option customizability will also make a very minimalistic appearance even more easily and thoroughly achievable.

This has been discussed on the forums before, and it seems to be a fairly popular feature request. The most popular feature requests are the ones most likely to be added to Vivaldi. In the mean time, do note that the browser is still in development, and has not even entered an alpha state yet.

To quote the homepage of Vivaldi, "It is a build intended to show the direction of our product. It is not perfect, far from it. Some of the key features we integrate are yet to be implemented, optimization needs to be done. But we hope that you get a glimpse of our product and what you can expect from us."

Yeah, I used to look at that list at times to compare but it tends to be hopelessly out of date, so it's usually best to ignore it and try out for yourself with a freshly updated browser. 🙂
