Allow Resizing of Tiled Tabs
-
Resize tiled tabs by dragging separators.
-
The image of what it is:
-
@asires Drag and Drop Tiled Tabs is a different feature request.
-
@pesala Good. But image is about "dragging separators", not "Drag tiled tabs".
-
It is nice that Vivaldi has page tiling, but it is now unusable because you cannot make the tiles bigger or smaller (by dragging the tile separators)
Please add this enhancement to the page tiling feature.
We need this resizing of tiled tabs very much.It would make vivaldi the most usefull browser out there!!
This is by far the no 1 request for tab tiling. Any idea if its implementation is considered (and for when)?
Thank you very much

@peefy Tab Tiling is a long way from being unusable without resizing of tiles. I use it regularly to tile two tabs vertically on a portrait monitor.
Scroll-sync for Tiles would also be very useful.
-
Thanks @pesala ! Vivaldi showed that Tab tiling is possible. Now go the next step and make it fit every use case. That is possible by adding tile resizing. Scroll-sync would be a nice to have addition.
In my case it is unusable because of many reasons.
One reason is the size of the screen, on smaller screens tile resizing would be very helpful.
Another reason is that both tiles default to tablet mode (changing the layout and menus of the website),
and i like one tile to stay in desktop mode and be wide (for working), the other pane can be small (for reference)A third reason is that any specific use case requires specific arrangements (narrow/wide, long/short) of the tiles for optimum viewing and working.
Anyway the number of possible use case would increase tremendously if it was possible to resize them.
Firefox had excellent plugins for that, but not anymore.I have seen this that this request has one of the most votes, so it makes sense to consider it.
That would make Vivaldi the undisputed leader in browser customisation! -
fyi this is VB-5064 internally

I agree, tab resizing would be amazing.
I love Vivaldi especially because of this feature of two tabs side to side, it helps me a lot managing my budget, as I have my bank account on a tab, and my budget website on another, and I could check my accounts this way.
Though I do not need both tabs to be the same size. I would prefer putting them side to side left/right rather than what I do currently (top/bottom) but for that I would need a way to resize the tabs. Also that would be great of each tab could have a different zoom value, so we could zoom out on a tab to see more content while working on another.
Thanks

Tab resizing is on our list.
With respect to the zoom, not sure what you mean. I can zoom just fine on each of the tiled tabs with different zoom levels.
-
@jon If the tiled tabs are from the same domain, and if "Use Tab Zoom" is disabled in Settings, Webpages, the two tabs scale together. YMMV as the behaviour is unpredictable

@jon Great that tab/tile resizing is on the list! That would make Vivaldi even better than it is. There is no one browser or extension at the moment with decent tab splitting AND resizing.
About zooming: currently pinch zoom on touchscreens does not work in Vivaldi (it works in chrome). It would be great to add that too!
Thanks for this great and ever improving browser! -
@peefy Touch screen support is difficult to provide, but it is a long-standing known issue and is already in the feature requests.
Support for Macbook Touch Bar and Support for Touch Screen Scrolling in Vivaldi via RDP

Great to see this popular feature request is now available in the latest snapshot, although it is not mentioned on the Blog.

It works pretty well as implemented, hopefully it will soon support grid-tiles as well as vertical/horizontal.
-
@lonm Yes, grid will be supported.

for my information: why is touch screen support difficult?
All other browsers support it, and more and more devices (like my laptop) are touch enabled, or even touch-only (like tablets). It would be pity if Vivaldi lags behind in this area and cannot be used on many devices.
-
@pesala Great to see this feature implemented.
it works indeed in latest snapshot (except for grid yet)! pity it was not mentioned in the snapshot details blog!!
now vivaldi is even more unique in its features !! -

That's why it was not mentioned in the Blog. It's still work in progress.
@ayespy said in Standard multi-touch gestures:
@jake404 Vivaldi is a custom-written UI, It does not use native elements to operate, and that is how it gets its flexibility and development speed. All UI-negotiated interactions have to be written by the team, and they are not all ironed out, yet.

@pesala indeed that all makes sense! Thanks for this new feature ... and up to the next: pop-out video (I hope) !!
