Extensions on Android?
-
There are already other Android browsers with extension support like Kiwi Browser, and it was recently announced that Firefox is bringing back full browser extension support to Android, so would it be possible for Vivaldi to get full browser extension support on Android as well?

@Ainyaku Sadly I fear not. You'll find more info in the original feature request:

@Ainyaku
Let's be precise: support for extensions in Firefox has been enabled for years in the nightly versions, through the collections mechanism, and then in betas. Support was also included in a fork of FF called IceRaven. Some extensions worked fine, others did not, but you could try to install any of them, both for mobile and for desktop (and the ones that work fine for desktop are many dozens).In the case of Vivaldi, the whole mechanism has to be written from scratch, and I think that the development team may not be able to cope with this as a technical task.
And I wish I was wrong! -
@far4 It's true it would have to be written from scratch, but it's not nearly so much a case of ability, as a case of priorities and practicality.
Though small, the Vivaldi development team is one of the more capable and experienced (some building browsers for nearly 30 years) teams in existence. But whether it would be a good idea to support extensions for no less than five mobile platforms and try to maintain this on an ongoing basis while at the same time having to patch Chromium for every release on all of these same platforms is another question altogether - to say nothing of what it might do to mobile browser performance and system drain.
The issue is whether they find it to be a good idea. And so far, they haven't.
