Allow Full screen mode for Youtube video feeds
-
For the moment, the Youtube RSS feed (which is great!) allows the user to directly watch the video without having to go to the YT page nor to login to YT to be notified and watch videos (no Google tracking! ).
It's announced on the blog that one added value is to embed the video directly in the feed, without all the fuss and distractions of the main YouTube website which, again, is great but the user experience would not be complete without the full screen option.
(for reference, the full Vivaldi blogpost announcing the feature)Unfortunately, the option to watch in full screen mode is disabled (grayed out - see small illustration )
which can, for the moment just be bypassed by using PiP (which is available) but isn't the ideal solution (because you need to resize the video frame to have it almost full screen ).
So, the request is to have that Youtube Full screen mode enabled (if possible - I don't know if this is due to YT restrictions).
For reference :
Edit : for your information, another interesting topic highlighting another issue for the videos being watched using the RSS feed : PiP closes on feed navigation
-
I think this depends on the source of the problem.
Has YT disabled this function through the RSS feeds? If so the issue should be addressed to them.
Is this a browser issue? Perhaps it can fixed at some time. -
@greybeard Yes, I really don't know what the source of the problem can be.
I know it's sometimes disabled on certain websites but enabled on others. That's why the sentence ending by "the option to use full screen mode may be turned off" leads to all options... -
Yes, +1
Fullscreen option doesn't work for me. I have to watch video on YouTube. -
@Stardust Which is a pity because the aim is to stay outside of Youtube :
we will also embed the video directly in the feed, without all the fuss and distractions of the main YouTube website. Not only is this a nice way to watch videos, it avoids you needing a Google login to “subscribe” to your favorite channels

@Ornorm Hard to tell whether there is a solution to it. I know my last 2 feed readers behaved just like Vivaldi does now, loading the feeds but no fullscreen (depending on video). It’s clear Google wants us to visit youtube and login there. On the other hand extensions don’t work on internal pages, so in case you got a third party adblocker it’s a better idea to load the vid on youtube anyway.

Grrrrrr

@Ornorm lol
I’m not against it, I updooted your request. I just fear there is no perfect solution to this one. -
@luetage I know and understood your post the right way.
I was just really interested by the blog announcement and what was written there which gave me hope we could be able to (kind of) bypass Youtube. -
@Ornorm But I posted to the left, how can you understand it to the right? You’re in the wrong direction, possibly under water and in grave danger. I’m gonna watch some youtube to find out how to mix up a shark deterrent, please stand by… 🦨

@Ornorm Don't panic! We're gonna call IR right now. They'll dispatch Thunderbird 4 to the rescue. All will be fine.

This was fixed internally (then broke), but should in any case be fixed soon
-
@gmg Nice. Thank you very much for the update!
