I can't believe this still isn't implemented. What is the Vivaldi team actually doing?? This is already implemented in Chrome

@MonkCanatella
Hi, I guess because only 83 user vote for it in 4 1/2 Years.
I don´t need this at all but this is all personal preference, vote for it if you need this feature:Cheers, mib

@MonkCanatella Other things have a greater priority. This is just one of 5,000 requests. It has a good number of upvotes, but that is not the main factor that determines what gets prioritised.

Well I think ease of development/time vs how much value it creates should be part of the equation - Why is it hard to implement what already has existed in chrome for so long? I feel like it's even harder to remove the capability than to add it in.
And it's funnny seeing email on here, considering it's one of the worst features of the browser and works so poorly. I've tried it on 2 different occasions and found it very disappointing.
So the team is sinking resources into something that doesn't bring much joy, but with a single line of code could really make a huge impact on being able to organize windows/tabs.
Let's not forget the only reason we're on hre using Vivaldi is because it's the epitome of the customizable browser. Not being able to name your windows the way you can do in CHrome is frankly embarrassing.

Vivaldi uses Chrome's code for rendering web pages. It has its own code for the User Interface, so it has to add code to implement renaming windows.
Mail, Calendar, and Feeds clearly have a lot of fans, or it would not have more than 10% of all feature requests. I have used email since the first Beta release, and no longer need to bother with webmail.
-
Ahhh so it's only using the rendering engine. The interface is totally homegrown. I guess that makes sense. If only this program was open source and we could write our own solutions - I think the amount of code needed to write this solution is small and would make a lot of people happy.

Recently moving from Chrome to Vivaldi; this and the ability to cycle through recent media tabs are the two main features I am feeling the absence of most keenly. Would very much like to name Windows for persistent tab collections and even better if they retain those names when you save a session

Up +1

@TheHighHorse Vote for the first post if you haven't already done so. (Voting again will remove your vote).
-
@Pesala Maybe that is the issue with the votes, it is so unclear how and where to vote? On the first post or somewhere else...?
Thanks.

I already upvoted for this, but for those using Linux I created a simple workaround that by capturing window_id with 'xwininfo' and adding it to a simple file list with the desired name will be read by another background process that reads the list in a loop and keep changing the window name with 'xdotool'.
Vivaldi is saving me for my usage, different windows for different contexts (sometimes 7 windows) with many tabs. Tried with Brave, Chrome and Chromium and they let me down... but I needed the window name changing capability for my own organization.
if you want to check it just tell me ...

Very much support adding of this feature!
It's becoming especially distracting now that renaming tabgroups in the "Windows" paneel is possible, because the window still is named after the first website in the tab group, which looks kind of weird.
Example below:
-
Vivaldi's latest snapshots include Workspaces, which can be given a name, an icon and that by definition group related tabs and stacks.
I've been phasing out my use of multiple windows into using multiple workspaces. With the advantage of also solving the problem of having mail only functional in one window which was not always the same...
Last I checked the feature needed to be manually enabled in vivaldi:experiments but it's been working fine for me and I feel it might be a good workaround for those wanting the feature that originated this thread...

We have discussed adding a possibility to rename windows recently, and this request is now in our pipeline, which means that we're planning to add it in one of our future updates.

What great news! I've wanted this forever but didn't think it would be possible so didn't ask. Before Workspaces I had up to seven windows open to group tabs and seeing seven windows in the taskbar was confusing and difficult to tell what was in them. Workspaces has fixed the problem but I'm still finding it useful to have 2-3 windows open. Will renaming the window mean the name shows up in the taskbar tile?
