Allow Mute Tab from Context Menu Whether they Play Sound or Not
-
Chromium allows to do this by default.

Yes, please don't make us wait for a site to make noise before we can hush it.
If I want to mute a tab I probably already know that and don't want to hear it.

[request moved from a duplicate thread]
A tab cannot be muted unless it is already playing audio content. This conditional type of mute is quite ineffective because when I do a "mute all", it doesn't actually mute all tabs, but only the ones currently playing audio. The rest of the tabs do not receive a 'muted' status, so if audio content is played in those with some delay, it will be audible.
Sometimes, if a video is already playing in the tab, Vivaldi still may not show the mute option. This happens often on Twitch video streams that have long intros without any audio, so Vivaldi doesn't 'detect' it and doesn't enable the mute option. So I have to actually wait for the stream to start playing sound in order to mute the video. This is too inconvenient.
Here is a short recording of the issues described above
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNGAEL_mUEcIn other browsers, e.g. Firefox/Chrome, each tab has a persistent mute/unmute option (either a speaker icon on the tab, or in the context menu), which is always there regardless of what's loaded in the tab. A tab can be muted at any time.
Please fix this. Thank you.
p.s. It would also be nice to have a button for mute all. That would be much better than going to quick tools and typing a command.

I would like to ask for this too!
As stated by OP, Chromium can do it by default, shouldn't be something too complicated. Thanks for the wonderful job being done with Vivaldi!

With so much stuff into context menu (I think you're are talking about this one of the page area), the menu should be a more compact solution to keep it useful : playing with icons instead of text may be a solution like does this suggestion.

+1 I would like to ask for this too, please.

Please add this, if I have a messenger open (say, Telegram web), the duration in which the notification sound plays is just one second, and it only plays when I'm in a different tab, so F1 doesn't work. It's very annoying you cannot mute a currently silent tab although you already know it'll not stay silent in the future.

Yes we can't mute a tab before a sound is heard.
Sometimes you want to avoid to hear a sound from a tab, but you can't mute the tab until the sound is played.
So yes, we want to be able to mute any tab, with sound or with no sound yet. -
Yes PLEASE find a way to do this - having random playback sounds coming from a number of tabs is VERY distracting.
Of course, the related issue is preventing videos from auto-playing - but the sound issue is more urgent.
Thank you so much. . . .

I search for this every few months that goes by that the feature is still not implemented. It's super important to me! I love everything about Vivaldi, but miss this feature from Chrome.

I also would like to ask for this! Chromium clearly does not do this by default and there is no opportunity to mute until sound is actually happening from that tab.

I'd love to see this feature implemented so I can use Vivaldi. Seems like a great browser but not having a real mute button is a dealbreaker.

The latest snapshots are now testing this feature: https://vivaldi.com/blog/snapshots/tab-muting-vivaldi-browser-snapshot-1628-21/
-
@LonM I confirm it's finally working now.
