yes, I have the global AutoPlay in Privacy & Security set to allow.
yes, I have the autoplay feature set to 'on' on the bottom right of the video player.

How do I turn this off? Thank You!

@Zalex108 Thanks for helping out on my question. You locked my post and suggested to come over here. Ok, however my problem has nothing to do with "Audio in Background tabs"
Nevertheless I have looked at the suggestions here. In both cases autoplay and sound were already set to allow. I have also checked that all my extensions were already turned off. so that has not solved the problem.
My problem is since the last upgrade in the last few days, a new YouTube tab now requires that I click a start arrow. I have been with Vivaldi for years and years. This is the first time this functionality has appeared. It does not happen on Chrome or FF. This is a pain in the butt, that with every new YouTube page I have to click a start arrow. Can you ask the developers if they implemented this on purpose? Thanks!

Ok,
Have you tried on a Clean Profile?
Not Guess nor Private nor disabling Extensions, just in a New One.Point 3 of the Basic Desktop Troubleshooting Steps.
Extras
- Clean Site Data
- Clean Service Workers
vivaldi://serviceworker-internals/
- Reset Flags
vivaldi://flags
[If personally enabled]

@Zalex108 When you say "clean profile" do you mean delete my current vivaldi install and reinstall? won't I loose all my data??
No I have not tried to use these steps although I have looked at them. Frankly I do not know how to use them properly, and am concerned that I will screw things up even worse.
Thanks!

Nope,
Create another -
@Zalex108 Ok, I did not delete the existing vivaldi, BUT, I did reinstall it. What I have found is, if I have a youtube video already playing and I open a new video on top of that one, then indeed, the new one plays immediately.
However, If I open a new video in a NEW tab, then there is a start button attached to it. I do not recall this being the default behaviour. Am I wrong?
-
@vincej1 If you have allowed autoplay for youtube, you don't have any extension which could mess with videos or a setting into YT itself (even if I think they removed) to stop autoplay, someone said it might be a known issue, but can't be totally sure because here videos are autoplayed (without changes).
In some rare cases, even disabled extensions can cause issues. -
@Hadden89 thanks for that - should I delete all extensions despite being turned off?
-
@vincej1 Try and see. Is one of the usual steps to troubleshoot these kind of issues.

I deleted all the extensions. and like I said before,
" if I have a youtube video already playing and I open a new video on top of that one, then indeed, the new one plays immediately.
However, If I open a new video in a NEW tab, then there is a start button attached to it."I do not recall this being the default behaviour. Am I wrong?

@Zalex108 Thanks. Almost a homerun, but not quite. Just upgraded my Linux Ubuntu server and it made no difference. I still have to hit a start button on new YouTube pages. I checked the version numbers and the Linux version is a very small number of builds behind:
Linux: 6.6.3271.45
MacBook: 6.6.3271.48
