Vivaldi improves Mail Search and Translate, extends Web Panels with extension support
-
@dehyde
It mean you install an older Chromium version over the new one and Vivaldi always jump two versions.
Different database structure, session and extension management, for example.
Downgrade work at first view, all fine, but errors on your system could not reproduced by other user and nobody knows why.Anyway, you can install older version as standalone, use sync to get it working or copy your default profile folder "Default" to the standalone until this bug is fixed.

@Beholder4096
This was only guessing, I forgot to enable hibernation once and a session with 700 tabs eat all my 16GB and it need 10-15 minutes to open Vivaldi.
I was curious because the crash happen exactly at a 1000 tab limit, with 900 tabs it does not crash.
Maybe you can clean up a bit.
We had a poll here some time ago and 8% of all Vivaldi user use more than 100 tabs, imagine how many use more than 1000 tabs.
But Vivaldi should never crash many tabs or not.Cheers, mib

@emily90 said in Vivaldi improves Mail Search and Translate, extends Web Panels with extension support:
Web Panels:
Enhanced functionality: You can now navigate within Web Panels, making them more versatile for displaying interactive content like web apps or live feeds.
Extension support: Integrate your favorite extensions directly into Web Panels, expanding their capabilities and allowing for even greater customization.
Side Panel support: Utilize Side Panel extensions within Web Panels, creating a streamlined workflow for tasks like managing notes or checking social media.What were the previous navigational buttons that were not available?
Can you elaborate on the other two? how do you integrate the extesions into webpanels?

Web panels still aren't synced, right? This has always been a (minor) annoyance to me. I'd like to have the same web panels across all my desktops, with hotkeys assigned to each one also synced.
Ctrl+Shift+1
for Spotify,Ctrl+Shift+2
for Element,Ctrl+Shift+3
for Telegram,Ctrl+Shift+4
for WhatsApp, etc. Without it being synced, it's annoying to get it all set up again each time. -

Hi and yes, I read to many posts to remember, I am sorry.
Two developers cant reproduce this on macOS, they mention one of your panels maybe does this.
The Vivaldi team cant test all pages in panels, no idea if this can be fixed.
If you have a standalone, setup your panels one by one.
I know it is some work but if you can find the webpage you can add this information to your report and the developer can test if this is a bug in Vivaldi or on the page.Cheers, mib
EDIT: Could you follow this thread?
https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/95615/problems-with-web-panels-after-the-6-6-update
These threads here are to fragmented to follow. -
Thanks for the new release.
The Dark mode for webpages is interesting, I hope in the future it can function more like Dark Reader and allow theming on a per-site basis rather than globally

@sjudenim
Hi, there is a feature request for an exception list but I cant find it at moment.Cheers, mib

Thanks for the heads ups, though I would prefer if there was a specific command that would allow us to make a command chain button to toggle rather than creating a list

Where do you find an extension to load WhatsApp and place in in the Web panel?
The extension does not appear to exist.
A guide would be useful. -

I cant understand anything new to webpanels.
-
@vlatko27: Same for me, it does not appear to exist as an app on Windows
-
Hey @mib2berlin Thanks for taking the time to respond
I've removed all panels except slack and it still occurs.I'm trying now to isolate the issue and remove addons, see which ones might impact.
I'm doing this on the snapshot version.

@dehyde
You can start Vivaldi with--disable-extensions
, I forgot on which system you are.
On Windows you can add this to a desktop shortcut, on Linux > Terminal. -

The extension does not appear to exist.
A guide would be useful.- Open WhatsApp in a tab.
- Right click in the page → Add in a Web panel
or
Click on the “+” icon in the panel bar and in the pop-up that appears.
-
Love the "preferred webpage color theme" but make possible to make an exception, not all webpage dosent looks good when it is turn on.. Or that you could right-click tab and select dark mode there. So that you could take individual pages as dark mode if you wanted
-
Maybe check the manual, you can open the help pages with F1.
Sometimes it is needed to change a panel to desktop mode, right click on the home icon to change Mobile/Desktop mode.https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/panels/web-panels/

@trit34 Thank you
but Whatsapp only open in it's own separate widow, when open in a tab and added to Web panel, it just shows the main program window and a download button which claims it is not compatible with this browser., changing it to mobile version does nothing, it is only the main web page.Finally managed it by changing from mobile, which does nowt, to desktop, which did nowt, then mobile and suddenly clicking Desktop worked.
(for now)
Ye Gods. what a pain.
Many thanks for the help -
@mib2berlin Found the source of the issue with very high probability.
There's an extension - Tab Wrangler, that closes tabs automatically after some time of inactivity.
It does not close pinned tabs, but since panels are not handled as pinned tabs - they close. It also doesn't register the activity of web panels for some reason which means that even if a panel is being used it will close with all other panels.
I would suggest, if possible, to regard panels as pinned tabs and to check if the activity can be registered.On my end I'll use exceptions in the Extension's settings as a workaround.

@dehyde
Nice, in 6.6 extensions can now work in panels, I guess we will get more reports about those issues.
Will add Tab Wrangler to my list of evil extensions.
I guess I can close to bug report? -
@jon hello.
First thanks for the news and the work.
I'm German and my English isn't that good. But let's try.
I mean in former times, when you were at Opera there was a mail client separated from the browser. They had - in my eyes - a really good idea. Save every email (I think as eml) in a separate file. Make a folder structure to save the emails per date. The benefit was you had not one big emails data base file with let's say exeeding 4GB. I assume this is not the case for Vivaldi mail client, is it? I ask for situations, where you can have one installation under Windows and one installation under Linux. With Opera mail client it was possible to use the same "email data base" (the folder structure) in both versions.thanks in advance, Thomas
