Some Google News articles open in embedded mobile view

Some Google News articles open in embedded mobile view instead of in a new tab.
This behaviour appears to have been introduced with a recent Vivaldi update in both standard and private windows; it wasn't evident previously. It doesn't occur in Chrome or Edge.
To replicate, visit https://news.google.com/search?q=lastpass not the&hl=en-US&gl=US&ceid=US%3Aen and click the "LastPass not the last password manager? Tips for switching password managers" link. Vivaldi opens the article in an embedded mobile view instead of in a new tab. Chrome and Edge open the article in a new tab.

@davidhealy Can confirm this with my Nightly 5.8.2962 + Snapshot 5.8.2955.3 + 5.7.2921.63 Stable.
Works in Chromium 111.Perhaps the mode if Mobile or Desktop is not handled correctly by Vivaldi browser, i remember such issue.
Please report issue to Vivaldi bug tracker. Once that is done, share the bug number (beginning with VB-). Thanks for helping us making Vivaldi better.

@DoctorG opened as bug number VB-96020

@davidhealy Thanks.
Tracker sent a mail for you. -
I am also experiencing the same problem. I've been using Vivaldi and news.google.com for years. It's only recently surfaced as an issue. Probably with the latest update.

@wigsie Yes, a weird bug.
-
@davidhealy Opening in foreground tab or background tab works and shows news article correct.
Issue appears only if opened link directly. -
When reading news from news.google.com, vivaldi loads some (but not all) links in the developer "mobile preview" mode (even though the developer tools are not open). Opening developer tools and clicking the mobile preview tool on and off does nothing. There does not appear to be any obvious way to "exit" mobile preview mode other than that toggle button.
Another possibility is that the mobile preview is actually closing, but google is still picking up a mobile flag from the browser? I tried restarting the browser (which should clear cookies, but maybe not all fingerprints?) This does not happen in other browsers.
Vivaldi 5.7.2921.65 (Stable channel) (64-bit)

OS Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.2728) -
Any solution on this? Its very annoying. FYI, if I refresh the link after clicking from Google News, it returns to desktop view. But all the extra clicking is just not good.

@DrewO
Hi, the bug report VB-96020 is confirmed but not assigned to a developer.
I use Google News in a web panel and open articles with Ctrl+Click in a new tab.
They always open in the desktop view, depends on your workflow as workaround.Cheers, mib
