Add Kagi to search-engine options
-
I just discovered Kogi.com, a relatively new and mainly subscriber-supported search engine (so no ads and no selling private data). You can do 50 searches a month for no cost. After using it a bit, I decided I'll spring for the subscription, rationalizing it as being just a fraction of a cent per search.
But Kagi is not shown as a Vivaldi default search-engine option. It would be nice if it were.
-
@Leisureguy I don't see a subscriber-supported search engine ever being added as a default. Anyone can easily add their own preferred search engines.
Vivaldi does deals with search engine providers to get paid by them for inclusion in the browser.
-
@Leisureguy , ???
(Please edit your link)
As @Pesaala said, apart with 50 searches a month I don't even have to begin with
-
@Catweazle Just a typo. The URL is https://kagi.com
-
@Pesala , yes, I noticed it.
-
Sorry for typo in my original post. NOT kogi [dot] com — it should be kagi.com
And thanks for the tip on how to add it as a default. I can see not including subscriber-supported engines in the default list.
However, Neeva is similarly a subscription search engine. Like Kagi, it does allow some number of searches free, but for full use, there is a fee.
AND — this is important — Neeva IS included in the list of default search engines.
So perhaps you can tell me why Neeva is in the list and Kagi is not? I had assumed it was just because Kagi is new, but from what you say it is that Kagi (like Neeva) charges a subscription fee for full use.
I have to say I am confused.
-
Ah — I see. I must have added Neeva myself sometime earlier. I have now added Kagi.com.
Thanks for the pointer. I hadn't scrolled down to see that I could add search engines. It's done, with nickname "k".
Vivaldi is great.
-
@Leisureguy , Neeva is also with a subscription, but it's usable free with a limitation in the search results, which can be enough in most cases, but Kagi with only 50 searches a month make the free use almost unusable.
The problem is that a Search Engine which need an account, isn't private by definition. If it is a paid service, they need the full and real user data which can be exposed.
I prefer to use Andisearch as mainsearch, which is IMHO the most private search engine (AI search assistant) and several others (DDG,Startpage, Qwant, MetaGer, apart specific like Wikipedia, Wolphram Alpha, some Forum searches, Pixabay....and analytics like Blacklight, Webkoll, URLvoid, etc..) -
@Leisureguy Neeva is a default, but they made a deal with Vivaldi apparently. Instead of inquiring about it here, you should ask Kagi to pay Vivaldi to include it.
-
@Catweazle Many thanks for the pointer to Andiseaarch. I had not heard of that. I'll give it a go.
-
@Leisureguy , works great, although it is still in development.
It has only two devs, Angie Hoover and Jed White, very nice and frienly people, you can contact them in Discord or mail, if you find a bug or have some problems with Andi. -
@Leisureguy so you were able to to add Kagi as a default? How did you do this? Is it possible in Vivaldi on Android?
-
@traumenCapote You can do that if you have the Kagi search engine on your desktop Vivaldi and you have Vivaldi Sync enabled then all your desktop search engines will be synced with the Android Vivaldi.
-
@Leisureguy said in Add Kagi to search-engine options:
You can do 50 searches a month for no cost.
Insane, I probably do more in a day
-
@iAN-CooG , same, because of this I deleted it.
-
I use Vivaldi only on my notebook computer. (I don't use my phone for browsing.) Kagi was interesting, but I decided that for me the fee was not worth it.
