Screen flickering in random moments
-
Hi all, after the last update (from 5.5 to 5.6) my Vivaldi started behaving terribly: in random moments of interaction (e. g. typing the query to address bar or switching from tab to tab) it freezes for a few seconds and then the screen turns off for a second, then you have about five seconds of a normal behavior and then this cycle happens again. Couldn't find anything relevant in system logs to analyze, so I started trying some workarounds from people with similar problem: I tried removing all user data including extensions, tried using empty profile, turning off v-sync in intel hd graphics settings (since it is used to render desktop), disabling hardware acceleration - all these things had no effect. When downgrading to vivaldi 5.5, the problem seems to be resolved, but somehow it automatically updates to 5.6 even if I run it with internet connection disabled and uncheck automatic updates option in settings.
setup: win 10 home, i7 11800H, nvidia geforce rtx 3070m
I've also tried to reproduce it on win 11 and the issue does not appear there. I'm not sure if such a bug report will be processed somehow, since it's something hardware-specific and really hard to reproduce, so I am asking here for help.
Thanks in advance!

Could be problem with Chromium 108 core of Vivaldi 5.6 and active Use of Hardware Acceleration" in Settings โ Webpages.
For me sometimes Vivaldi flickers once with embedded videos. Seems to be NVidia driver on my side. -
Same here since a few updates, full screen videos flicker for a very short time every 5-10 minutes or so. Didn't measure it.
Not hyper relevant, but why?
VLC is able to play videos in a constant manner.Win10, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT here.

Hi folks. Found some workarounds for this issue, maybe it will help somebody.
- update intel hd graphics driver (can be difficult if you try doing it from Russia, for example)
- going to
vivaldi://flags
and explicitly settingChoose ANGLE graphics backend
flag to something other than d3d11. It helped me to fix the issue and to avoid turning off hardware acceleration completely
Thanks @DoctorG for providing info about known chromium core bug, it helped me to find the solution.

THANK YOU! Setting to OpenGL or D3D9 (I stuck with OpenGL) both worked. I'm on Nvidia.
Uninstalling, reinstalling, and creating a new profile temporarily fixed the issue, but it immediately came back after the next update. Using
Choose ANGLE graphics backend
flag will save me from having to need to recreate a new profile after each update.I had this problem for about a month (started after an update) and tried so many things.
