Windowed mode still starts up cold. No window animation. But it closes just fine with the appropriate window animation. Maximized mode starts and closes fine. But windowed mode just starts up. No animation. Inconsistent program behavior. Needs a fix. Disappointed this wasn't taken care of before 5.5 entered stable. Do better, guys and gals of Vivaldi. How do you expect loyal users to be ambassadors for Vivaldi if aspects of the program don't work right? Good work otherwise. Thanks. @jon @Ruarí

@felagund
Hi, one user report this:https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/79842/apt-update-in-debian-fails-due-file-size-mismatch
The server was updated but this was 6 hours ago.
Cheers, mib

Sadly, after installing this version the browser couldn't start, it was closing right after the launch. (macOS 12.6, arm64)
Eh, even more sadly, this is not the first time when something like this happens to me with Vivaldi.
I'm starting to lose my trust. I guess I won't be installing new major versions freshly after release. I'll let others be lab rats for a change. -
@pepkin88 That won't help you. If everyone had this problem, we would have seen dozens of reports already.
It must be something unique to your setup. Please start a new topic in the Vivaldi for MacOS forum with your system specs, and list of extensions.
-
@mib2berlin Thanks, that is exactly my problem. No solutions yet though.
-
@pesala: Thanks for advice.
"That won't help you."
You may be right, but I have noticed a pattern. Quite often I see, that after a bigger release there is a couple smaller with bug fixes and crash fixes. Other than that, I've noticed, that sometimes there are some regressions introduced, that get their fix later.
From time to time "I'm feeling lucky" and try a fresh release. And although most of the times it is without any crashes, there are quite some times, where a new bug, or an old one, gets into the newly installed version.
That's why I often settle on some more stable version for a longer time and I usually skip updates.I'm aware that my setup and my way of using the browser in general is unusual and that will give me a higher chance to stumble upon more bugs than others. And I know that "it is the right thing" to properly report such issues, like I used to do.
I don't know, maybe I'm old or just lazy or selfish, but I'm less and less inclined to do so (and the private issue tracker is not making this more welcoming). So I think this time I'll just wait it out (it works more often than you might think). Sorry. -
Thanks for sneaking in another bookmark in my speed dial. This time pointing to eneba.com. You really got to do this at every major update?
-
@Shomp There is no such thing as a free lunch, except for Buddhist monks.
-
This release seems to be unresponsive at times & the bookmark items frequently disappear at times. The mail items do the same & take a long time to render. The same can be said for the current Snapshot version.
It is very frustrating to have to wait for the browser to become responsive. I have a stable version & a Snapshot version installed on different machines ,both behave the same.
I would hardly call this speeding things up. -
@GCullinan There are no such symptoms here, on any of my (many) systems, using multiple OSes.
Can you tell us something of what kind of hardware you are running on, whether you run ANY 3rd-party scanning, cleaning or security software, and what your OS is?
-
I am in favor of bugfixes. But in my case, I like how VB-90597 worked and now I am sad.
-
@Ayespy , I am running windows 11 on an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core Processor 3.60 GHz I have no 3rd party scanning apps installed or running. The previous Stable release had no issues.
I am seriously considering reverting back . The system has had no changes before installing the current version. -
@GCullinan Do. Not. Revert. Back.
It is not recommended, not safe, and can corrupt your profile.
The key is to figure out what the heck happened with the combination of Vivaldi+your system that caused such an odd range of symptoms.
-
@GCullinan Do you run any extensions?
-
@Ayespy I am running a n Adobe acrobat .PDF extension & a Pinterest extension.
I will hold off on reverting for now. -
@GCullinan Neither of these should actually affect your performance, but you never know.
One way to test is to run a guest profile and see if it runs without the problems of your aged profile.
-
@Ayespy How do I go about that?
-
@GCullinan Do you have the profile icon at the top left of your browser? Sorry, top right.
-
@Ayespy Yes I see it
