Add support for Protocol Handler
-
In qBittorrent web ui, when accessing over https, there is an option to make qbittorrent the default application handler for magnet links, and qbittorrent web willl always open when clicking a magnet link.
QBT PR: https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/pull/10552/files (discussions about the feature, along with links to MDN)
Actual:
This works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox.
Firefox SS:
This does not work In Vivaldi. Clicking the button
Register to handle magnet links
does nothing.
Vivaldi SS:Expected:
Vivaldi shows a notification box informing me that "qbittorrent web page wants to add a handler for magnet links", and asks me if i agree, providing 2 options: yes or no. If i click yes, then clicking a magnet link in another tab will make vivaldi open qbittorrent in a new tab.
There are multiple related discussions and workarounds, however I did not see any Feature Requests for this, so that it's supported out of the box.

@thebestpessimist That's strange, it work for me (Win10), although I don't follow the same procedure. When installing qBittorrent I just selected it to be a handler for Magnet links on the OS-level and it works in all browsers.
This is from a clean Vivaldi 4.0 profile:
You shouldn't have to do anything in Vivaldi if the protocol and an associated program is registered in the OS.

@pathduck Thanks for the tip.
Maybe I dont have that handler os level because i use qbt portable instead of installed.
That's why i need Vivaldi to property handle that.
Gotta figure out how to do this at OS level. Do you have any tips for that without installing qbt?

https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/25257/add-protocol-handler-to-settings,
I fail to see the difference to the linked request.
There is also Support for MIME Types, which goes back a long way.

@thebestpessimist I've noticed now you're talking about the qBt WebUI. I don't really use that and I have no idea how that would work in detail.
But registering qBt the application (not WebUI) to handle magnet links should work even for a portable install. Try going to Tools > Options > Behavior and look under "File association".

@pathduck That doesnt work for me.
I have QBT installed on a different computer, and i want to add torrents to it from my laptop. so i must use the webui.
-
@pesala whoa you're totally right, its the feature request!
Let me explain why didn't i notice that:
The category there looks like
Settings
instead ofFeature Requests
, so i thought it's a different category/subject of discussion. More in the lines of "How do i do this" instead of "Please add this feature that other browsers have":
However now i looked at my own topic, and it's on the same category
Settings
.

@thebestpessimist Yes. The forum has lost its breadcrumb trail, leading to a lot of confusion / posting in the wrong forum. It is a known issue.

@gwen-dragon yea.
I believe my post can be merged with https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/25257/add-protocol-handler-to-settings
