Sigh... why use gmail in the first place...
When GMail was literally the only way you could set up your brand new Android phone in 2010...
That's still the only thing I use it for.
Edit: let me rephrase - when Google took all my individual accounts for YouTube (pre-Google), Maps etc. created during the 1990's and merged them (without my consent!) into a single Google identity with a corresponding GMail address around the time I needed to set up my first Android phone in 2010.
-
@npro If you use Android, using a gmail account for it doesn’t hurt. I also use it for the chrome extension dev account. Nothing personal in there, so no harm done.
-
Adding the gmail account works perfectly now, thanks for the update. It also doesn't nag you with an additional window and login on Vivaldi start and we aren’t signed in to Google sites like chrome store and youtube by default. Great job!
-
@npro Because you know your emails will be read, if only by a machine.…

Never going to use two-factor since in my opinion it is LESS secure to give away my phone number to Evilcorp.
Yep, what if the 2nd factor is way less secure? Does the the additional "secure question" (some services force you to add) also considered as two-factor? Like "what is you favorite animal?"
( )
Very interesting topic about two-factor authentication. It would be interesting to see blog-post about this from the V-team
-
@Stardust Security questions are not 2FA. The factors in 2FA refer to something you Know/Own/Are. Both security Qs and passwords are things you know, so no matter how many you have, its still only 1 factor.
But you are right that some additional factors can reduce your security. Like SMS. SMS (particularly the SIM card in your phone) is something you own. However these can easily be stolen due to mobile companies having poor security. And yes, security questions, regardless of what factors they may be, are not great.

I consider a "security questions" as a second password, so it should be as strong as your main password. But some services limit this input field (length, characters etc),
So I hate "security questions"

Nice. A wild gmail appeared. Let see how much time G will keep the insecure apps flag enabled.
I had to enable IMAP too as it was off in gmail.@Ruarí It seems that dark theme is inherited by mailer webview, is something known ??
Some mails are dark , some are light (default) , some are mixed.
It seems linked to Vivaldi theme. A light theme is a workaround, but the mailer webview shouldn't use the [theme] background for mails but just use its own.
VB-75077 - Mailer webview inherit the background color from the theme
-
I've enabled Less Secure Apps. Then V. asked me whether app-specific or global password. I choose global, and now V. is stuck attempting to sign in.
Ok, it seems to be working with the "app specific" setting.
-
@paul1149 I used the app-specific. Is interesting as here it asked for "app password" or "oauth"

I remember back in the day when Gmail sent broken code to Opera users, Opera had to create a browser.js hack to fix it. -
Hi, I have some issues with this build:
- Amazon.de is not reachable (Opera, Chrome are working, testing with IP does not work, too)
- Profile avatar is not shown, only default image
Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Both work for me.
Time to troubleshoot ? -
@TbGbe
Thanks for testing, hrm, does not work in a clean profile neither. Will check guide.Cheers, mib

Google still blocking my sign-in for Gmail...
-
@mossman: Phone number? SMS hasn't been the recommended 2FA method for years. Apps like Authy are. And it's not like you need to use it every time, either, since you can request that Google remember a given device for 30 days or whatever the time period is in their case.
-
it's not working for two-factor authok it works on mail, but can't sign-in to google calendar
-
@baris-sehri: Exactly! Mail is working fine but Calendar is still OAuth only.
-
@npro: You're right of course just a legacy thing with me from the before time.
-
@npro I really wish I didn't. Sadly I feel for the Kool-Aid of being attracted to GMail back when it was invite-early (I was invited by a member of my extended family), mostly due to the constantly expanding storage. I'd love to move away, but I have two problems:
a) Where to move to?
b) How do I easily identify the full list of online services currently assigned to my GMail so I can work to transfer them over?
