Vivaldi Android cannot download any files
-
@BoneTone It already is Internal storage in Downloads Settings. What else could it be, if I don't have a SD card slot. I have 1 TB Internal storage instead.
As I said it's a bug. It doesn't make any sense that Vivaldi asks for Download path, because there is only the internal storage. It's unable to download anything. You can check for yourself, my device is "ASUS ROG Phone II" it has no SD Card slot. I have recorded the screen to show you guys, but I don't have permission to upload videos here. The "Yandex" browser on the other hand, on my same Android device works perfectly well with downloading. It's a Vivaldi related bug.

It's not entirely clear from @Krzywus 's reply, but it made it seem like his location might be set to the SD card and he's unable to change it.

Well, your settings do tell it to ask everytime. It's respecting your wishes. If you have that enabled, I would expect the browser to popup the dialog, but either not display the SD card or throw the error saying no SD card found when you try to choose it. It should still save successfully to internal storage though. To not see the dialog, the user should disable that setting.
Since yours is set to the internal storage, it is worth testing what happens when you disable that dialog. If it resolves the issue, that's good for you. Either way, the results will be useful information to send Vivaldi to help them debug the problem.

There's no need for that. Even devices that support SD expansion can be running without one. It might be useful to the dev team to know if devices that support SD cards but don't have one also exhibit the issue, but it's irrelevant to me. I'm just thinking of ways one might be able to work around the bug.
I don't think anyone has the ability to upload videos. You need to host them somewhere else, like YouTube or Vimeo, and then you can point to them in your post.
-
@BoneTone I disabled that dialogue, but it's still saying "SD Card not found" and won't let me download.
The bug is still present. After going back to the downloads Settings, I see that it even turned itself on again. It should've nothing to do with that dialogue. -

That's really weird. I tried it in both the Snapshot and the Beta and it doesn't get turned back on.

Huh? It's the option that turns that dialog on and off. Or it should when there's not a bug.
-
@BoneTone It's not about the dialogue, but about Vivaldi wanting to download to SD Card, even tho the device doesn't have SD card support. Even tho I chose Internal storage as download path (because there is nothing else to choose from in Settings, as you saw in the screenshots)
This is a bug that needs to be fixed from Vivaldi's site. Every other browser has no issues with downloading files. -
@hyperboraeer Hi, I checked on:
Umidigi One
Android 8.1
Vivaldi 2.12.1864.3 Snapshotand files are downloaded to /download directory automatically.
What are your settings in Settings > Download
I don´t have a SD card, too.Cheers, mib

@hyperboraeer right, I understand the issue. I don't know where you get the idea I don't think it's a bug when I call it such.
Trying these things often finds a workaround that allows users to continue their work. It also provides the Vivaldi dev team with useful information for debugging the issue, so long as it gets sent to them. They don't have the time to read through the forum, but whoever filed the bug can provide the additional details by replying to the email received when it was created.
Or anyone could file a bug, and reference the VB number so it gets tied to the correct issue. Since this isn't a 100% reproducible bug, it makes that info even more valuable as there's no guarantee they'll be able to repro it. I've seen a bunch of bugs get closed as no repro only to be reopened later when this kind of info is then provided, which delays getting a fix for the effected users.
-
@hyperboraeer You guys can stop wondering. You might have seen that we added an "IN PROGRESS" label. It's a bug (Android Q) and it's being fixed.
-
@BoneTone I have a phone without an SD card and it doesn't work. From the settings does not allow you to change that folder. Looks like there's a permit problem. With EDGE no problem.
I hadn't updated the page and others have already replied, however they are working on fixing it.
-
Just to chime in v2.9.1741.39 worked fine, the next beta version 2.11.1813.18 doesn't. I just grabbed the old one off of apkmirror and am using it for now
-
@BoneTone It doesn't work either for me. I am looking forward to the next version that maybe this bug will be fixed.

Same problem here:
No SD card installed. Can't download anything.Smartphone: ZTE Axon 10 pro
Vivaldi 2.11.1813.18
Android 10 -
@sweetlou6 I don't need to know this. It'd be more productive to send you're info to the Vivaldi dev team so they know which devices this reproduces on. That could save them a lot of time trying to repro the bug.
Since it's not happening on a lot of devices, someone reporting a device that they happen to have in their fleet of test handsets lets them go straight to a working repro. -
Hey guys!
We released a Minor Update for Vivaldi Android Beta today. Those of you encountering the issue with downloads, please test the latest Beta version and let us know, if the issue is still there or you can now download files from the web. -
@jane-n no problems.
Download successful with the dialog enabled and disabled, to both internal and external locations. It worked before too, so just no regression here.
Galaxy S9+
Vivaldi 2.11.1813.20 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Revision 66c520bd9cc76ad6d95bf16fa8eaa3c445599f5e
OS Android 10; SM-G965U1 Build/QP1A.190711.020Edit: sorry pasted wrong version, correct now, but definitely tested in beta, different tab stacks in UI confirmed it
-
@jane-n Hi, i'm still having problems.
Vivaldi 2.11.1813.20
OS Android 10; Mi 9 SE Build/QKQ1.190828.002No SD card.
It remains there and does not let you choose a different folder or save it.
The window title is "Scheda SD non trovata" (SD card not found).
-
Thank you for testing. Seems that there's still some work to be done. We'll keep you updated.
-
Hi guys!
I just wanted to clarify few things that i observed!- This SD Card not found is only occuring on Android 10 as i tested it on both Android 9 and 10.
- It's more of an android issue than chromium or vivaldi issue.
- Even after the recent update, the problem still persists on my device.
- The problem only occurs with Internal Storage and doesn't affect SD Card download.
- This problem has nothing to do with 'Ask where to save download' setting.
Device : Mi A3
Tested On : Android 10 and Android 9
Android 10 Roms on which i have tested : Official Stock Rom, Pixel Experience Plus, Lineage OS, Syberia OS, CrDroid.
Android 9 Roms on which i have tested : Official Stock Rom, MIUI 11 EU Rom.
I hope it gets fixed as early as possible because it is a major issue for downloads.
Thank You!

@abrarmohd520 dude, awesome first post! Welcome to Vivaldi. Just some relevant resources you might find helpful.
In the Help menu of Vivaldi there's an item that will take you directly to the Report a Bug page, but you can also bookmark that link to access it however you prefer.
Here's Vivaldi's official guidance on things to do when you have a bug to report in order to make it easier for them to identify the issue and get it fixed.
Vivaldi's bug tracker isn't public, but you can go here to request a status update as long as you know the bug number. You'll receive that in email for any bugs that you personally submit.
Finally, unrelated to bugs, there's a lot of useful info and people in the forum, but one thing in particular that is really unique to Vivaldi is the ability to create and install modifications. The Modifications category is where people post mods they've created, and discuss mods they'd like to have but need help to do it. There's almost certainly a few mods that anyone would find useful, and installing them isn't very difficult. Just be sure to read the pinned thread that explains how that's done.
Cheers,
BoneTone -

I don't think it depends on Android, i'm using Edge to download because it works properly.
