Play audio in background
-
Well not the video so but the audio part, not a lot of browser propose this functionnality but it's useful in my point of view.
However there is a problem that could appear in the horizon if Vivaldi think seriously to implement this functionnality : the developer of Kiwi Browser put this functionnality in his browser. BUT recently Google play store make him understand that Google will be the one that propose this functionnality. Well I have understand that this strike was caused by the desire of Google to sell his premium YouTube acount (that let user listen video in background).(mod edit: update title to clarify request)

We definitely need this. Brave already prove that such a thing is possible with Chromium without using tricks such as "show desktop version"
-
On Kiwi you can run Tampermonkey js for YouTube and Vimeo and on any modern browser the desktop version of YouTube will do the trick.
-
Kiwi browser does not seem to be able to do this
Of course, this can also be done through plugins, which may require additional development by vivaldi
I haven't done this for a long time, although other videos (not YouTube) can use the desktop version and then play using pip. -
I hope vivaldi for Android can support background playback, even if the user locks the screen, they can continue to play video or audio
The background playback of kiwi browser is very good, whether it is video or audio, the lock screen will continue to play

In some cases (e.g. YouTube), you can play the video's audio in the background when you switch the site to desktop mode. The video will pause when you turn off the screen or open a different app, but you should get the play controls on the phone's lock screen / Android menu, where you can press play again.
You could test this method on other websites as well.

Pretty known but really cumbersome; experience in Brave is totally at different level regarding video in background.. infact using Vivaldi for normal browsing but switch to brave for YouTube.

@sevmonster thanks for the recommendation! let's hope that ads will not disturb that experience, but I'm definitely going to try!

Hello, will this feature be available on the snapshot soon? Thank you

Vanced YouTube can play video background and block ads. App is better than web youtube. YouTube background play is premium feature if Vivaldi support this it might get removed from playstore. https://www.androidpolice.com/2019/05/08/kiwi-browser-removed-from-play-store-due-to-youtube-background-playback/

@balachandarsmr The feature to allow video background playback (if it will come) could be served as an helper apk module to avoid strikes.
-
As far as I know background play is a bannable offense in the Play Store, but I've no idea how Brave managed to get away with it so far.
-
please add this feature in vivaldi i'dont want to use other browser for this and i'm regurally use vivaldi when launched this powerful browser before i use opera and now i switch vivaldi for my default so quickly add this feature i mailed it to vivaldi

Yes. Background video play is a must need. So that we can listen to youtube by switching off the screen. Brave and Firefox have this feature.
Thanks.

Vanced YouTube is better than mobile web YouTube. It blocks sponsored ads, supports background play

I also support background playing, is there some way to urge a ticket on this?

@myronandez If background YouTube is the only missing feature for you and as YouTube background play could ban Vivaldi from Google Play Store, you should really try NewPipe app, as sevmonster said.
It is really better than the YouTube app in many regards, including background play.
If you install it through F-Droid, you will also have convenient auto-updates.
And for solutions based on userscripts, this requires the mobile Vivaldi extension support, with which you would install (Violent/Grease/Tamper)monkey, then the userscript of your choice.
But NewPipe is already there and really handy.
