Features vs Extensions

@axk said in Features vs Extensions:
I have no choice but to use ext for something the browser won't provide: uBlock, Dark Reader, Youtube Enhancer, Imagus, video downloader. I'll stop using them when the browser can replace them. Which for most browsers will be never.
There are several browsers that have a built-in adblocker, but none more efficient than uBlock or nano Adblocker, which in my opinion are the best.
Extensions that invert the color of the pages, like Dark Reader there are some, Vivaldi himself has this function, but he does not save it for the specific pages.
But better than Dark Reader is Night Eye, since it does not simply invert the colors of the pages, but analyzes and applies dark colors as a result of this only in case of need automatically. On pages that already have a dark background, it is not activated. -

I do not know what extension you use, i use RSS Feed Reader and it is constantly updated, if ever an integrated RSS reader will save me the use of an extension and I'll be happy.@waldo

The RSS reader is however in eighth place of the ranking of the request with 67 votes, i would say that of users who are interested there are.Another feature that i consider important and that needs to be integrated is to be able to select the text of the links as this extension does Select like a Boss.
-
@gwen-dragon: What about supporting a working version of the emerging WebAuthn (Web Authentication) as FF, Chrome and Edge are doing? Is that a possibility in the future?
-
@luetage Vocal minority perhaps. And in the sense of the wider web, its definitely true.
But I wonder if the population of Vivaldi would have a different split, given its aim towards power users.
-
@lonm I subscribe to the Vivaldi Blog via the built-in Newsfeed reader in Oprea 12.18. It's not a feature I used much. It was useful on certain occasions to have a feed to JIRA when Beta testing other products as I could quickly see a dozen or more new message without logging in to check what was new since my last visit.
It's not just a power user thing, though. I suspect that others might like to follow sports results, etc., via a newsfeed. The large number of votes for any feature request must be at least some indication of its popularity.

I have always been able to copy part of a link without any problem and without using an extension for this (???)

@ian-coog: if you never opened your eyes you wouldn't miss it, but after living your all life like you did losing your sight would be devastating
-
@catweazle: I'd love mix of uB0 and uM (and defender?) built in my browser, native code should be noticeably faster in heavy loads
-
I agree whole-heartedly.
I've been waiting for you guys to add customizable mouse chording for several years now. Would love to switch from Firefox and stop using a mouse gesture/chord extension. Hope that day comes soon.
-
Over the years there have been a few requests for easier selections of text in links, but I saw no feature request yet for "Select like a Boss." I just got used to selecting text in links after years of using Vivaldi and Opera 12.18
One feature that might be worth building in is Read Aloud Selected Text. We used to have this in Opera until IBM pulled the plug-out.
If English is not your first language, it can be a very helpful aid to learning to pronounce it better. PDF Viewers typically have this feature.
-
@greybeard since credential management is Chromium-based, initial
WebAuthn
support should already be in Vivaldi stable. For tests, check if
chrome://flags/#enable-web-authentication-api
is enabled on respective Chromium derivate.
Differences should be considered a bug and reported. -

Hi, in the latest version this feature has improved a lot but some links still can not copy. An example you can go here: https://www.viamichelin.it/web/Itinerari
If you try to copy the "TA-RITO" as the image without extension you can not.
@Pesala Maybe i had made a request to integrate this function a couple of years ago, if i remember correctly, but then with the passing of the versions the ability to select the text of the links has improved a lot and i no longer made requests. In those rare cases where i can not copy the text, enable the extension.

Ok, but it is not a link either, I do not see so great use of being able to copy the text of a button. If necessary I make a capture with the ShareX OCR.
What is interesting is to copy a link or part of it, and this can be done perfectly with Vivaldi -
@zakius That's not how democracy works. In a democracy the minority hurts the majority

impossible to live without
I beg to differ, I never had the need of RSS myself.
I sorely miss having news feeds since switching to Vivaldi but I can see that if you never used them you wouldn't realise what you were missing.
It allowed me to keep an eye on the news and other goings on while working or surfing and - most importantly - kept track of what I'd read and made it much faster to dismiss stuff I wasn't interested in. Now, when I want to check the news I have to keep scrolling past all the stuff I already saw when I last checked it a couple of hours previously.
Like I said, until you've been in the habit of glancing at a pop-up and spotting an interesting headline every now and then you won't realise how much more efficient it is than periodically trawling through websites. And as a bonus you get to see the headlines as soon as the story appears.
Edit: and having a list of headlines to scan is also much clearer than most websites. You also tend to get more articles appear on the feed than on the main page of a website, where some of the more interesting things will be buried in sub-pages.

What is interesting is to copy a link or part of it, and this can be done perfectly with VivaldiAs i said in the previous post "In those rare cases that does not work Vivaldi do i enable the extension". What i posted is perhaps not the correct example but i have to hand sites to post, accessible without making a login, in which there are links that do not allow to copy the text.
It is not a problem and i have not even made a request to upgrade this feature, i just said that it is a convenient function and must be integrated in the browser as it is now.

Probably not the correct place to ask this?????, but a few days ago I downloaded version 116.1259.3 (by the way it screams!!!!!!!). Now the download version is 116.1246.7.
It seems obvious that 1259 would be latest? Is it? if so, what happened to it on the snapshot download listing.
Thank you
-
@jlhillhouse It looks to me that the Team Blog page has not been updated yet, that's all.
Regression Fixes and Crash Fixes for Developer Tools is currently the latest Snapshot.
-
Pesala, thank you for the quick reply, No big deal but why was it set a 1259 the other day and what made it go by to 1246? just curious. Johnny
-
Seems more likely it was never updated on the rightmost link box in the news page, but it's only in the snapshot blog entry
