Multi-Account Containers

@AlienProber no, Firefox is dead and Opera is dead
but Vivaldi hasn't caught up to their capabilities, still needs some time to reintroduce everything that got abandoned -
support. in firefox, this is implemented much better and more convenient than session box. this feature is much more important than the clock in the browser or this built-in game.

And MUCH more difficult and more fraught. Not easy to code on a Chromium base, but rather, extremely involved. And, BTW, your post of "support" is not a vote. To vote for this, you must click the "up" thumb in the original post on the thread.

I logged in for the first time in....ever, just to vote for this.
This is pretty much the only feature that keeps pulling me back to firefox instead of staying with vivaldi full-time.
Honestly, it makes me wonder sometimes if maybe I should go back to firefox full-time.
I understand that it may be difficult to develop and implement, but in this day in age, lots of people have multiple accounts for the same websites for different reasons.
Maybe it would be worth working with upstream to get something like this implemented, if possible. -

obviously, especially that everything except Blink (that STILL can't render text properly) and V8 is useless in Chromium, including extensions API
but decisions were madebut I am completely aware that sometimes even the lowest priority tasks get delivered before the higher ones, sometimes you just have a bit of time so might as well do something small instead of doing nothing

I can't overstate how useful this would be for me. I love the customization of Vivaldi. But privacy is absolutely key for me online. Firefox Containers are one of the most innovative and useful features ever devised for a browser. It allows much greater control over privacy without sacrificing that much in ease of use. I use Multi Account Containers along with the Temporary Containers. I have themed containers for keeping some browsing contained and logged in, and set most new tabs just to be a new temporary container (which is like a private tab, expect that history is saved locally, which I want). Container Tabs in Vivaldi would be so great.

Firefox is quite an old browser and i don't quite understand what or how containers work..i have not looked into containers very much but i am assuming that cookies..passwords etc are contained within a tab..is this how that works...?....Why not use cookie autodelete or something similar or have i got the wrong end of the stick.
i could never understand the fuss with containers and why would firefox suddenly need it considering it did without it for so long. -

They allow you to be simultaneously logged in to a single website, with two different usernames.
You can't log into facebook with your username and in a different TAB with another username, today.

The extension SessionBox could provide some of the desired features of Multi-Account-Containers, I suppose.
I haven't tried it bc I have no multi-accounts. But I searched for it to provide multi-whatsapp-accounts within 1 browser.
-
Is there any sign Vivaldi are currently working on this? I would absolutely love to have this
-
@keeganwitt
I've wondered if Opera starting this feature (they call them workspaces and they're not very feature rich yet) would get this feature prioritized.I don't know if they plan on changing how this works, but, at the moment, Opera Workspaces are nothing like Firefox containers. They're more like what is now called "tab groups". They visually show/hide groups of tabs, but they're not isolated in any way. Just wanted to share update on that. Sorry for any confusion.
-
@Dancer18 I couldn't get SessionBox to work with Vivaldi. Google, for example, refused to open up a tab under a different login.
This capability would make Vivaldi a near-perfect browser.
-
@Technodawg
Sorry I can't help you further bc I haven't multiple accounts somewhere.Maybe there are some others here to get you work it.

i could never understand the fuss with containers and why would firefox suddenly need it considering it did without it for so long.Firefox's extension engine may still have some issues but make no mistake Mozilla does keep Firefox up to date with the saltest technology and privacy features INCLUDING containers. Migfht want to check the facts before posting.
Now that said SessionBox which @Dancer18 mentioned is a good choice for Vivaldi while we wait to see if the dev do incorporate native container support.

Please add this as part of guest mode, coz now first mode is the same as incognito.
-
I think this feature can be added like a profile manager evolution.
Nowadays the profile manager feels outdated, compared to the performance that Firefox carries with regard to handling containers.
-
Just another voice to say a) I'm so glad to have found Vivaldi and love the privacy and accessibility features built in, but b) won't and can't switch until this is implemented. Longing to swap off Firefox (for the most part), but this is a dealbreaker.
-
@charmarkk I never had a browser that worked in all situations. I had to deal with at least 2 different browsers parallel.
I guess that isn't possible for you bc multi-account-containers are essential for you?
-
I would really love this feature. I already use Firefox for work. but having this for Vivaldi would be exceptional.
If anything it could just be an extension to the existing profiles. It would just need to isolate cookies to a profile. -
MAC would be a killer feature for me if implemented in Vivaldi. I use MAC now together with Temporary Containers addon, it allows to isolate any site by default in a new temporary container, so all sites are isolated unless a site is added to whitelist or assigned to a container.
Until this is implemented in Vivaldi, I will continue to use it as a backup browser in case a site does not work in Firefox.
