Disable / Enable Extensions from Toolbar
-
What Vivaldi need is simplify GUI for extension manager similar to SimpleExtManager extension (get it HERE).
Suggestions:
-
It display complete list of all installed extensions, with active one on the top of the list, & disabled one greyout at the bottom.
-
It have button/menu for option & uninstall command, allow u to access option & even uninstall disabled extension directly.
-
It have new & updated list, plus recently disabled extension list. Both r extremely useful when certain extension doesn't work as expected after auto-update or disabled by accident.
- It support temporary disabled all extension function (no restart needed), & able to restore previously enabled extension (after disabled all command) with just a single click of button.
My suggestions r not a replacement for current extension buttons display GUI inside the Address bar, but compliment functions to manage extensions with ease, which Vivaldi currently lacking as @luetage have pointed out above. IMO this "list" can be implant on the Extension Toggle button, access via either a long press or right click. Or, just add another button besides the Extension Toggle button, or even better add a proper Extensions panel.Of course, we can stuffed the default extension manager into the panel to emulate this GUI, but most user have agreed that the default Chrome GUI is cumbersome & unintuitive to use, especially via the panel. LOL

@dude99 Right now it’s best to use a dedicated extensions manager and there’s only one written specifically for Vivaldi ☛ https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/29013/extension-control

Hugely in favor as well – preferably via context menu. It would moderately enhance security, as people will be less likely to forget turning off unneeded extensions, and would greatly enhance convenience, by allowing people to make better use of reasonably-but-not-absolutely-trustworthy extensions.
-
The LanguageTool Extension already has this option on its context menu. I find it easy enough to use Ctrl+E or long-click to access the Manage Extensions tab.
A bookmark to
chrome://extensions/
also works well. Rename it to " " to show just the icon. -
@Pesala: Yes, these are good solutions, similar also to the panel-based one that QuHno suggested. I still think, however, that the context menu option would be somewhat smoother and quicker yet, which should make an appreciable difference in use cases where one toggles an extension on, say, an hourly basis during concentration-heavy work. Opening a new tab does, after all, take the entire visual focus away from whatever content one was viewing, and necessitates re-orientation afterwards. The method via context menu would reduce the distraction not insignificantly, I think, especially in relation to the effort that is presumably required to add it.

Come on now, just adopt whatever SimpleExtManager have, & improve 'em to 11. LOL

-

-
remember last enabled state/list, disabled/restore all extension state with 1 click.

Bonus: Show the updated extensions!!!

Devs, this is important in terms of privacy and security.
I just found out an extension I use sells all my browsing activity (it's Rakuten, a cashback extension.) I still want to use the extension, but from now on will need to enable it only when it's necessary.
I also want to use other extensions that request "All data from all sites" permission, but only selectively enable it.
Just add a right click option to disable the extension, without removing it from the toolbar. I don't know the architecture of how you guys do it. Having a separate "disabled state but still show in toolbar" might be more of a project than it lets on.
Hell, I think it would make more sense for disabled extensions to still show in the toolbar by default, rather than the current practice of removing them. Otherwise, there's not much of a different between disabling and deleting.

The added choice off "Disable" when right-clicking the extension in the extension bar, just like the "Remove Extension"-button which is already there, would solve this and be enough at least for me. But if the extensions get hidden when deactivated so it's bothersome to activate them again it kind of defeats its purpose and the whole ordeal might not be as easy as it seems.

(Thanks for the tips about the extension manager extension, it kinda goes straight against the want for this function, namely to have and use extensions less due to security risks involved, and that extension will soon be deprecated according to chrome store, will install it anyway.)
