Option to Disable Autoload and Autoplay of HTML5 Videos

@ghpy said in Option to Disable Autoload and Autoplay of HTML5 Videos:
To make this option perfect, it would have global as well as site-specific settings. So you could generally block videos but allow them on your favorite pages.
This is how it's implemented now.

@pettern I'm unable to auto block video play on Vivaldi, how to do?
-
@oci87 Settings, Privacy and Security, Default Permissions.
However, this feature is IN PROGRESS, i.e. it is available in the latest Snapshot 5.4 builds, but not in the Stable 5.3 builds.
Just wait a few weeks for 5.4 Stable to be released.
Install the Snapshot as a Standalone Version so that it does not interfere with your settings for the Stable release.

@Pesala thanks, this is very important feature. I will wait in the stable. Thanks.

@stilgarwolf better not, I tried an extension like this or this and is giving issue with YouTube Music that I use
-
Many of such Stop Autoplay extensions create issues with playing video on soem sites. I remember many user running in such trap and they often reported this as a Vivaldi bug 'not playing the video', but was caused by the extension.
-
Is this feature currently enabled on the dev stream? It was pulled back from the latest stable, wasn't it?
-
@oci87 I tried several of them before selecting AutoplayStopper and I'm using it for years with no issues. As Vivaldi's "Autoplay block" option is not working yet this is the best option I found.
-
@stilgarwolf thanks, I installed seems working

@Nekomajin on Vivaldi 5.4.2753.15 the settings to stop autoplay is integrated in the browser so not need and extension. Just need to wait this will made available also in the default stable

Hi Everyone,
What I'm wondering is will the block auto play option ever be available in the android version? As we all know the mobile version doesn't support any extensions, and being honest probably never will. When I'm utilizing the windows desktop version I still have to utilize an extension to prevent some sites from playing videos automatically. -
@Davy49 I think it might come in the future, Vivaldi for Android 5.4 is in testing.
-
I hope this feature would be fixed to work properly every time. Now some videos many times still play automatically even when globally disabled.
For example in this news site: www.is.fi
Once again it's not possible to create steps-to-reproduce, it's seemingly random when the videos autoplay.
I usually open (from Feedly) all interesting news articles in new background tabs and then slowly read them through one after another, sometimes doing something else in between. And sometimes when going to a tab with earlier opened/loaded news article, if the article has a video, it autoplays.
EDIT: Or perhaps opening lots of news articles has something to do with this? Or, opening new articles in background tabs from an already opened news article? Anyways, it just happened again in that site, every new background tab played a video automatically when I switched to them first time. The feature needs more work.

@Tealing If you can identify some steps that reproduce a bug of autoplay settings being ignored, please file a bug for it so testers can check.
For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.

Like I said, I can't. Although this problem happens to me every day, all the time. All I can say that try opening a lot of the news articles in background tabs on that site and then switch to those tabs one by one, perhaps taking a pause at some point. Or opening more articles in background tabs from those earlier opened articles pages. That's all I can report, no steps. Not all of the articles on that site have videos, which makes this even harder to test.
I hate seemingly random problems/bugs that can't be properly reported. I'm a meticulous person, so believe me, if I could, I definitely would report a bug with steps-to-reproduce.
Just recently I posted in another topic about a "clicking an image url which opens to a empty page" bug that happens randomly and I'm unable to report it. It started in some version of 5.4 snapshot and is now in the stable as well. 5.3 stable didn't have this problem. But, I can't report it because I can't create steps-to-reproduce.
-
Same problem happens in https://yle.fi news website as well, so it's not a single website problem.

@Tealing
Hi, Vivaldi does auto play any video on this page for me, I test ten links.
I had to wait a few minutes with open tabs, before I open only one tab and then blocking of auto play work.
I guess I can reproduce it, will test again tomorrow.Cheers, mib

@LonM Easy steps to reproduce:
- disable AutoplayStopper.
- go to youtube.com
- open any link.
5.4.2763.3 (Official Build) snapshot (64-bit)
-
Current implementation of Autoplay Settings behavior is very disappointing, here is my feedback:
-
Autoplay blocker doesn't kick in until the entire page is loaded, & then when it does "stop" Autoplay, the bandwidth of the media player doesn't stop...
-
That means this Autoplay blocker is really just Auto-PAUSE function, this is very far from the Disabled Autoplay we requested.
-
No option to Disabled Autoload or Zero buffering. Without this function, current Autoplay blocker is useless for those who have limited bandwidth, because it's still continue leeching bandwidth in the background eventhough the Autoplay blocker paused the video/audio on pageload.
-
No suspend/stop player function? I mean if we can stop large image from finish downloading, why we can't stop video/audio from doing the same?
V team, please do better on this Autoplay annoying situation. As of now there is no way it can replace the AutoplayStopper extension. Please install the extension & study how it works & how it's able to provide meaningful experience to Internet user.
