I hope that vivaldi 1.11 will improve dictionary
The dictionaries are provided by Hunspell, not Vivaldi.

So when am I going to be able to move the tabs below the address bar? I've been waiting for that to begin using Vivaldi. Not having that is a show stopper for me.

Tuesday @ 10:47.
-
@klgrube You can already do this with a modification. The code is in this thread: https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/15834/tabs-on-bottom-for-1-8/6
@Steffie I almost waited until 10:47 to post this, but you didn't specify a time zone.

@klgrube Would the title bar just be wasted like it is with tabs on the side? Or if the whole address bar moved up, then where would the window min-/maximize and close buttons go, next to the extension icons? Seems messy.
If it means another bar below the address bar that is some precious vertical space not worth sacrificing imho. But, weren't there rumors of a fully customizable interface? That might offer some new possibilities .. Maybe for now try some keyboard tricks or mouse/touch gestures.

Safari puts its tabs under the URL bar and it's a very clean, compact, functional design:
The tab bar also disappears when there's only one active tab, leaving even more room for web page content.
-
Of course, it can be. Just saying it would require a redesign of some things unless you have vertical space to waste.
Would be very interesting though, i like the Safari look. But is there also a practical advantage? Just curious. With the speed of my mouse it's like half a millimeter of movement, or no difference at all with the keyboard.
-
@mdnjou Practical advantage? Not really. Sometimes, it's just a case of: "why do browser designers insist on putting tabs on top instead of under the URL bar, where they're supposed to be?"
Maintaining consistency on a platform is important to some; the macOS Finder (file manager) also places its tabs in a similar position. Others simply like it that way. I can make good arguments for putting tabs on top but UI preferences, likes and dislikes, can be based on purely emotional factors that are every bit as important as any other.
-
@xyzzy Oh good, that's what i thought. And agreed.
Practically speaking though. One great thing about tabs on top is that you can move the mouse right up to the edge without stopping, and almost without looking. Because the screen ends there anyway. With tabs below you have to aim and stop in the right place, it takes just a tiny bit more attention.
That is if 'Remove tab spacing in maximized windows' is on. You can't miss.
-
@mdnjou The Fitts' law argument for "tabs on top" is less of a factor on macOS because of its fixed Menu Bar.
macOS is actually optimized for a menu-based UI, which is why it's a pet peeve of mine that Vivaldi still doesn't have a Bookmarks menu, "where it's supposed to be", like every other major browser on macOS.
Like I said, UI preferences can be very emotional... as well as practical... and what's very important to some people can be totally unimportant (or even unwanted) to others.
-
@Quinca71 Well, i deliberately chose to omit the Date & TZ, partly for a piquant sense of mystery & intrigue, but mostly as a self-referential in-joke for anyone paying attention who noticed a frivolous TZ remark i made in another thread.
And it's she.

@vivald777 I'm sooooooo pleased & happy to learn that your caps lock key is working fine. I tossed & turned in bed overnight fretting that poor little you might have a broken key, such that you might be condemned to a life of lower-case. Thanks for sharing with us that my fear was unfounded.
-
@vivald777 The problem does not exist on this system. What's wrong with your machine?
-
@vivald777
You are shouting a bit too much and providing a bit too less of a detail.
A lot of free memory is a bit vague.
1.) What OS do you use and is it 32 or 64bit?
2.) What vivaldi version do you use? (You can look this up in the first line atvivaldi://about
)
3.) What extensions do you have installed?
4.) What security programs do you have installed? (antivirus, firewall, etc.) -
@vivald777 Please don't take this the wrong way... You're in a situation where you're having some performance issues with Vivaldi on your system, and I sympathize. However, there always comes a time, for any system, where the latest software doesn't run as well as it used to. Your CPU is now more than 5 years old, and it was at the low end of the performance spectrum when it was announced. You can try to extend your system's life by ensuring that it's running at its peak efficiency. However, there will come a time when you'll have to be selective about the software that you run simply because the newer software is optimized to run on newer classes of hardware. I'm also facing this reality too now that my favourite laptop is starting to show its age.

With most parts of your comment I agree with you but the part where I quoted you is not completely my kind of style.
I still use Vivaldi on a netbook that is about 8 years old that now runs win7 home and has a 1Ghz dual core with the insane amount of 1GB ram and of course onboard graphics.
My view on this is more or less accept and adapt (yes I know that tends in the direction of fanboisim ^^)
Vivaldi isn't of course the fastest on this system but who cares - I still remember the time when one picture for ehr... "entertainment" took about 5 minutes to load - so I can live with those "performance issues" pretty well.
To be honest I don't get all the hurry, hurry stuff these days
