The vpn button should have a tooltip "Install Proton VPN" to make clear for users what happens.
Then they will not get a unwanted feature added if they do not click. What about not just tooltip that can be easily missed, but "Install Proton VPN extension" text on the button!But still why button on the address bar, when the proper place for it - on the Extension page in the settings.

@Stardust It can't be written on the button, it would be too long a text and in some languages even longer than the wording in English. The tooltip is the best solution as it has no limits of text.
On the extensions page it would not be visible, on the toolbar is the most logical place. In addition to the tooltip "Install Proton VPN extension" when you first click i would also open the page https://vivaldi.com/it/protonvpn/ where i would add the explanation that you are installing an extension.

@CummingCowGirl I have to decide next week to get 500 or 1gpbs internet. I suspect my WiFi 6 router, notebook and phone won't actually support much more than 500 anyhow. So I guess 1 gpbs makes no sense.. I don't actually use ethernet anymore.

I'm on WiFi myself and from experience most do not need anything over 400. In your case I would go with what gives you the best price even if you never get the full speed. My suggestion is to simple do a search on the specs for your equipment.
I'm still fine with DSL (~20-35MBit) - literally the only time I ever have a problem with bandwidth is updating multiple PCs while my wife is streaming something - have to pause operation when she starts shouting at me. I suspect even that is down to the router struggling to move large files around the network at the same time as streaming, rather than the incoming DSL speed.

@mossman it all depends on use cases.. I sometimes download torrents of live concerts that are 1 to 3gb each and download 10-20 at a time but still yeah 400 mbps is blazing fast for me.. Each one finishes in minutes. So that is fast enough. Still I wouldn't mind even faster.
I have noticed for example that on a 400mbps connection, my software updates on windows way faster than on a 100mbps connection. I use tools which update programs on my pc in bulk, like Patch My PC Home Updater & UniGetUI (stupid name, it used to be called WinGet) .. so these kinds of tools operate way faster.

Once that is done, share the bug number (beginning with VB-) you got by bug report mail.(VB-115845) When restoring Vivaldi from minimized state the active tab is empty.

My suggestion was when clicking the button - redirect to the Extension page where you can install/enable it. Extension page - the proper place of installing extensions.
Adding "Placeholder icon" to address bar is not necessary imo, Vivaldi already opens What's New page when updating it.
it reminds me annoying Firefox Pocket extension that you have to remove/disable every time on new Firefox installation. Also many users don't care or don't need VPN extension at all.

This was one of the most requested features.
Plus, Vivaldi wants to include almost every Internet tool you use daily, like web surfing, mail, RSS, calendar, syncing, bookmarks, notes, downloads, music listening, video viewing, and PDF viewing. And VPN is also there. Otherwise, you would need to use tens of different applications with different settings, different designs, different work styles and different philosophies.
Even if some(or many) of the V users wouldn't use this feature, it's still there for the ones that need it. Again, you won't be forced to use tens of different applications with different settings, designs and ways of working.With esteem,

I think so. I think it's a good thing for Vivaldi and Proton. Looks like Proton VPN is good VPN service so I don't mind its integration in Vivaldi

Yes but from the next version on the "What's New" page will no longer talk about the VPN but about the new features, and so those who install Vivaldi 7.4 for the first time will not have any information about the VPN.

Valid point.
Information about VPN can be in "Initial Tour" that you see on first installation with theme selection, tabs placement etc..Also there could be Recommended by Vivaldi extensions page listing Proton VPN and other good extensions like uBO.
