      In light of recent sync issues due to load and growth, it would seem to me to be a good idea to have the ability to have self-hosted sync. It is something that has been done with browsers like Firefox. It could be a docker type system that a technical user could deploy for their own sync services.

      I know it is a small chance of this happening, but just a thought.

        @Cretec It is planned that source of Sync server will be available, but no time line.

          Was just about to ask this.

          1+ vote for this. Would like to be able to host own sync service, would be cool. With the ability to fallback on Vivaldi Server if own self-host becomes unavailable.

                @Catweazle That is fine for one time / emergency needs, and we use a similar tool for that purpose. It is what we have had to do during this outage.

                Just not as convenient or efficient as using a regular sync. I think this would help the overall sync, by allowing this for the more technical folk or groups.

                  Re: Self-Hosted Sync

                  I've been able to satisfactorily perform and maintain a self-hosted sync for my browsers using Syncthing. Running a separately hosted Syncthing process on my own Linux server running docker, which was already being used to sync multitudes of other service data, I achieved a fresh install on a Windows VM instance. It might not have been as simple had my server not been currently running Syncthing that could be leveraged for this situation.

                    We need this feature. Will be great to get company's to vivaldi instead of other browsers.

                      A self-hosted sync service for Vivaldi is a good idea in principle, but there’s an easier way. Why not enable synchronization via cloud storage or a network drive? This approach would make the feature accessible to a larger number of users. The use of solutions like Nextcloud and others I won’t name here is already widespread. The Vivaldi account can still remain mandatory if necessary. I don’t mind.

                        Hi, how does your solution decide which device is which?
                        I sync many devices with 3 different Vivaldi accounts, one for stable and one for the snapshot (Beta) for example.
                        @rsswanson
                        Hi, same question, a cloud store data but you need an active server system like a web server.
                        This would be possible with an Amazon AWS but they want money.

                        It is not as easy as many users think, a simple backup system would be easier.
                        Or add more to the export feature, Sessions, mail accounts and so forth.

                        Cheers, mib

                            Self hosted sync has been requested before, the main request is here -> https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/64900/our-own-server-to-authenticate-users-and-sync-their-preferenced
