@CryptisMidnight In fact what you did already was the correct way that you don't have to disable bitdefender in the future, as the blocking is coming from their site the Vivaldi devs can't do much about it so the only way is to let bitdefender developers know about the problem - the more people do this the more likely it is that they'll test their new versions against vivaldi before releasing it.

I agree, Avira could/should be informed of this false positive Vivaldi setup.exe.

Then again, referring to your last message, I see no point in me sending it to them, as
a) you scanned the provided setup.exe with virustotal.com, which now is reported as clean (identical SHA-256)
which to me means that
b) they reevaluated it.

So I guess I'll change this thread's title to "Solved"

@lonm I just checked it with Chromium and it works with Chromium, it's just so weird that it doesnt work with Vivaldi.

@owis2 Actually, no, this release is not just messed up. There is something wrong with your extensions or your profile, or both.

It sounds like McAfee has created yet another false positive. Downloads from Vivaldi's own site are safe, but certain antivirus software occasionally identify such installers as being malware. It might be worthwhile to inform McAfee they need to get their act together.
