Issue with Sync
-
I just switched to linux from windows, i want to sync my data from vivaldi in my windows to fedora, it has been more than 20 minutes it is showing 'initializing Sync...'
i have tried reinstalling vivaldi, installing from flatpak, also downloading an olderversion.what can be done? Thanks in advance
-
@yashppawar Initialization should be immediate. https://vivaldistatus.com shows sync as operational. It shouldn’t depend on the version you install, a reinstall does nothing.

@luetage Thanks for the reply, any idea what could be the issue? my internet connection is also stable...

@yashppawar Any proxy or VPN in use?
-
@DoctorG , nope, nothing, its a fresh install and first thing I am setting up is vivaldi, it worked instantly in windows, just its not working here
-
I am having the same issue on openSUSE Tumbleweed. I've tried installing with flatpack as well as the recommended install of the RPM as instructed help.vivaldi.com. Same result of the never ending "Initializing Sync".
I also tried removing the GPUCache as recommended by several users.
I would really like to use Vivaldi as my primary browser, but if I can't sync across all my devices then Vivaldi isn't really an option for me.

@shermantech
Hi, I am on OpenSuse Tumbleweed too, RPM install, use 6 Vivaldi installs with running sync.
First is to log out/in, I guess you tried this already.
Any special firewall settings, do you use a VPN? -
@mib2berlin
Thanks for the response. Yes, I have tried log out/in in various combos of restarting the app. And, I also tried this with the firewall off. I am not using a VPN (at this time). But, I will continue to work on it as time allows.
It's good to know that sync is working with other Tumbleweed users out there. I assume there is something that needs to be configured at the system level. -
@shermantech
I remember in rare cases the network router or even the provider block sync.
A way to test this is to use a mobile hotspot to test it. -
@mib2berlin
I'll give it a test on a mobile hotspot. It does sync instantly on my Windows machine, but I don't use Windows that much anymore. -
@shermantech
Some user report it work only with VPN but the issue is something in your network.
Another Fedora user with sync issues, I ask if the Flatpack is used, there are still issues with the Flatpack.https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/106448/vivaldi-sync-not-working-on-fedora-err_timed_out
