Vivaldi does not work well on Speechify
-
I added the speechify extension to my browser, and I found it strange that it simply odes not work. Then, I tried entering the speechify page and some buttons do not recognize my clicks. It'd rather be a problem with speechify itself. However, when I try speechify on Microsoft Edge, it works perfectly, both the extension and the web page. Then I suppose my Vivaldi may have something on its settings that may cause it. Apart the customization, the only thing I changed was the option to block all ads and tracks. It could be the problem, but I set the speechify page as an exception to the blocker, and it is still not working.
I am running Vivaldi 6.5.3206.39 stable on a Kubuntu 23.10.Does anyone have a clue on how to solve it? I wish I could focus all my activities in Vivaldi.

Same problem here. It works on Chromium but not Vivaldi for me. I am running Linux Mint.

Hi,
Welcome to Vivaldi's Forums--
Please,
On each report add:- Vivaldi Version: |
- Since when happens: |
- OS / Version / DE

Most probably is related to the fact that Vivaldi doesn't pay for the Speech support to Chrome so that may be the reason.
For the moment follow below steps,if persist, report it to the Extension's Dev.
Start with the Basic Desktop Troubleshooting Steps.

@VitorGRM @JoelGrayson
Hi, I can only test the free tour on the webpage.
Do you meant the extension?Cheers, mib
-
Yes, the extension.
Vivaldi Version: 6.5.3206.55
Since when happens: December 2023
OS / Version / DE: Linux Mint 21.3 x86_64
-
@JoelGrayson
This happens more often after an update of Vivaldi.
The Chromium source jump two versions from 118 to 120.
Sometimes it help to disable the extension, restart Vivaldi and enable it again.
You can contact the extension developers, may you get a statement.
Then you can report it to the Vivaldi bug tracker.
In some cases the extension developers work together with the Vivaldi developers.
Often they ignore Vivaldi, I fear.Cheers, mib

I have strated to search a text to speech option in Vivaldi settings and I gues it is not available. Right ?
In Safari on Mac OS I have had it and I really miss it now on LInux .In the case it is not build in Vivaldi then what do you think the alternative could be ?
-
@nonino Text to Speech is not available on Vivaldi on Linux.
Test Text to Speech extensions instead.
For which purpose do you need text to speech feature?
And something like Orca screenreader on Linux does no work for you? -
@DoctorG Thank you for your reply and questions .
You know : sometimes I open a web page , any kind .It can be some local goverment web page , article , pdf documents , ebooks etc.
The information to read are overwhelming ,there is sometimes so much to read. I am getting tired of reading .I think I prefere to hear the text. It is so much more relaxed way of absorbing the information.
The other thing is the blue light from monitor screen + EMF of the screen itself is not too healthy for a human being . I think we should be very careful about it as well.
Both of these issues make taxt to speech feature very welcome in my case. I have really liked it on Mac OS.
