Move "Open a new tab" button on the vertical tabs
-
Hi there.
I've just started to use vertical tabs and it looks pretty good.
But it would be great if I could move the "Open a new tab" button from the bottom of the section with the tabs next to "Synced tabs" and "Show closed tabs" buttons to make it always visible. It's annoying that I need to scroll all my several dozens of tabs till the end to find and be able to click that button every time I need to open a new tab.
Please let us move that button or just make a duplicate of it in the section under tabs list.
-
I also use vertical tabs and I agree. It is annoying that the New Tab button moves. It should be at a fixed location, so that user knows where to go with the mouse. Either at the top, above the tabs, or at the proposed location at the bottom. I prefer the top. It should be user settable anyway.
Cheers!

I agree with both previous posters.
-
+1 on this. This is exactly the feature I was looking for and krepkay showed exactly where I'd want it.
-
Perhaps add an option, so that each user can decide. I personally just use CTRL+T to add a new tab.
-
Absolutely agree. This suggested solution is simple and clear.

@krepkay Your post is from 2020 but till now nothing has been done by the vivaldi team in 2023 and causing issues for users using vivaldi too much or heavily.
Even dev vivaldi doesnt show anything new upcoming or related to this.. Sad.

- As a workaround, create a Command Chain for New Tab or New Separate Tab.
- Customise the Navigation Toolbar to add the Command Chain as a button.
- Use the Theme Editor to assign a suitable button to the command chain.
You will then have a fixed button for creating new tabs.
-
A better solution, imo, would be to turn the tab bar into a full fledged toolbar. That way, anyone could choose where to place the new tab button, be it where it currently is, alongside the other buttons of the tab bar, or in another toolbar.
-
@krepkay I completely agree. I can't believe they haven't added it yet. It's so simple feature.
-
@JosefKulda It has a simple workaround, and only 20 votes after more than three years.
With some 5,100 feature requests, this is unlikely to be done any time soon.

That's something completely different, there's a reason obviously OP wants the button there as he is using/is accustomed to Vertical Tabs. He could even not use the Address Bar at all.
One could say "use the keyboard shortcut
Ctrl+T
as a workaround". Or "use a mouse gesture for opening a new Tab" as a workaround. It's annoying that I need to scroll all my several dozens of tabs till the end to find and be able to click that button every time I need to open a new tab.

@LoneRanger12 Still waiting for this thing to become an out of the box. It is so simple, yet not happened not allowed via customizations. Sad.
-
@LoneRanger12 It beats me why anyone thinks this is simple to fix.
For me, with the Tabs on the side, the New Tab button appears right after the last tab, while the Trash can appears right at the bottom of the tab bar, which on my portrait monitor with four tabs open, is far away from the New Tab button.
The developers would need to create a new editable toolbar to hold the Menu button, the Trash Can, and the Synced Tabs button to offer users the option of moving the New Tab button to the top for vertical tabs.
The solution offered of placing a fixed button on the navigation bar solves the problem neatly. It never moves, regardless of how many tabs you open.
-
@Pesala Ok, I believe you but then give us, the users of vivaldi some control with edit panels and customizations to do things the way we want like we got for other stuff like moving address bars, bookmark bars and remove and shift positions of buttons on those bars. PLEASE. GIVE US THE CONTROL.
-
@LoneRanger12 I have no influence on what gets done or when. All I can do is offer workarounds or point out the facts to the best of my knowledge.
After more than three years, this request has only 22 votes, and it has not been tagged yet as In Progress, Pipeline, or even Nice to Have, which indicates that we may not see it for years.
So, get used to using a shortcut or the suggested workaround of a button on the Navigation Toolbar or Status Bar.

Hi there!
Of course there are several workarounds and actually I use one of those mentioned here before - mouse gesture.
I also use vimium extension so I can do it just by pressing 't' button.
It was just kind of suggestion to improve UI/UX stuff.
Because Vivaldi is...
and that's why weit!!
-
@Pesala How many upvotes needed to get into move?
-
@LoneRanger12 I fear, could be Hundreds until Feature request is recognized as important by devs, and such upvotes do not really increase priority to add, humanpower in dev team is restricted.
-
@DoctorG Again, not causing burden with requests but user control with customizations would have made things easier. Using vivaldi with vertical tabs is mess due to this and then wallpaper in background home new tab not resizing but getting back of tabs view.
