Blank page shown on some web sites

Also: the thanks actually belongs to @apollo117
because he actually posted about the hibernation thing earlier and i only went and confirmed it in my browser based on his posting. I might not have arrived at that conclusion on my own at all.

Add Fandom wikia and Reddit to the list of affected sites. I'm experiencing this issue too. I just found this thread so I'll try turning off Hardware Accel for now.
-
Sometimes when I open a website, it shows like this until I restart vivaladi
-
@Osamako May be related to power saving r hibernation, see this thread https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/81416/blank-page-shown-on-some-web-sites/

Hello, I've been having this issue often, but with hardware acceleration disabled. I also tried the ignore blacklist flag and didn't notice any change.
I'm usually running 50+ tabs with many of them hibernated.
I see this most often in a new tab when searching google by shortcut from the address bar, and in that case typing in google.com in the same tab fixes it. Just now I typed in google.com directly in the new tab and got the blank page. I'll also see this often when typing in maps.google.com in a new tab.

Thanks for looking into this!

Why are you all using google search? Do you enjoy getting tracked? Just as a reminder, you can use https://www.startpage.com for 1:1 Google results without the profiling.

@luetage
Hi, I don´t get the same results at Startpage and I cant find search suggestions for it.
But this is really off topic.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin Of course you don’t, because there is no tracking and therefore Google can’t target you. And it is not ot, because users have been posting all over this topic the blank page thing happens with Google search.
-
@luetage
I thought it shouldn't matter which search engine a user uses, it should just work. -
@mib2berlin This is true, but there is zero reason to use Google search. There are a ton of search engines out there which will give you comparable results without the crap.
-
@luetage said in Blank page shown on some web sites:

Like it or not, Google is still the most advanced and accurate search engine.
As far as I know, no alternative search engine has yet implemented a connection with maps or "smart" results such as displaying information about companies, personalities, movies, reviews, etc. at such a level as Google can do. And these may be the reasons why people still use it. Yes, their data policy sucks. But as long as everything that alternative engines and services will offer is "just" privacy and nothing more, google will still have the upper hand. -
@3WaD Only in the eyes of users who are willing to make that sacrifice. It’s your choice however. I’ve been doing just fine without Google search over the past 10 years.

Hi, one developer mention to disable driver bug workarounds with the command switch:
--disable-gpu-driver-bug-workarounds
On Linux you can start Vivaldi with it, on Windows you can change the desktop shortcut:

I just tried this but it did not seem to do anything. Still had the problem. Is there a way to confirm if the command has applied or not.

@apollo117
Hi, I try to reproduce at moment again running a log file but cant after some hours with 200 tabs, hibernating, two windows.
I will try further today.Cheers, mib

Hello, just wanted to say that i get the exact same problem on wikipedia but i'm using Google Chrome, not Vivaldi, so the problem is probably not from vivaldi. I tried, as apollo117 said, to go back to google search and then go back to the wiki page without clicking on the link and it works.
I also have a lot of opened pages, with probably some google search or wikipedia pages hybernating. -
Still seeing this issue (I replied here a few weeks ago).
Some more information regarding my setup:
- I never use the Hibernate page feature in Vivaldi.
- I always have 2 Vivaldi windows on average about 30 browser tabs in each. I have Gmail pinned in 2 tabs, for my primary and secondary email.
- Other common tabs open in background are youtube, reddit, stackoverflow, steam, github, wikipedia, google search.
- I do not use Windows 10 hibernate or sleep. I start the system from power off each session.
- I have had no graphic rendering in applications or gpu stability issues ever on this Windows 10 system.
- I have only ever had this issue clicking on a search result link in google search.
- Whenever the issue happens, clicking the back button followed by forward button will ALWAYS make the page render correctly.
- On a failed page, pressing F5 or CTRL R to refresh will NEVER make the page render correctly.
- If I copy the URL of the failing page and paste into a new tab, the page in the new tab also fails to render.
- If I click the back button then forward button on one of the tabs displaying the failed page, the other page will now render correctly if I refresh it.
Here's a pastebin of vivaldi://gpu on my system.
NB I ran vivaldi://gpu just after clicking on a stack overflow link from google search that fails to render with this issue. The tab was open in the background as I ran vivaldi://gpu
https://pastebin.com/ruSsB5KxHope this helps fixing it or at least working out if it is a Google/Chromium problem or Vivaldi specific.

Hi, a Vivaldi developer find a Chromium bug cause this in Vivaldi.
The Chromium developer cant reproduce it, too.https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=1334982
We can only hope it will be fixed in an update of the Vivaldis Chromium code.
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Thanks a lot for the info, I guess it means out of Vivaldi teams hands.
It's a little concerning Chromium bug was raised June last year and is still unresolved. Also the final comment on that issue back in November last year is worrying:
"It had been a while since I'd seen this, I was starting to hope it had gone away on its own. But no such luck. This time it's happening on google.com/search."
Classic programmer response to a difficult to diagnose bug ;). Not good signs for being fixed any time soon.
