Blank page shown on some web sites
-
When browsing certain websites, a blank page(either completely blank or partially framed) appears.
This always happens when Last Pass Chrome Extension is enabled.
This does not occur in Chrome. Is this a bug in Vivaldi?[How to reproduce]
- Install Last Pass Extension
- Restart Vivaldi
- View Wikipedia(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page) or DeepL(https://www.deepl.com/ja/translator)
- Blank Page Appears
Vivaldi 5.5.2805.48 (Stable channel) (64-bit)
Windows 11 Version 22H2 (Build 22621.819)
Last Pass Chrome Extension 4.104.0.2

@jsugahara Please check your adblocker (click shield in Vivaldi address field and switch to Block Tracker or to No Block) and reload.

@DoctorG Thank you for your reply.
I already disabled vivaldi's adblocker and other ad blocking extension but the problem still occurs.Thanks.

@jsugahara Please check Troubleshooting issues.

@DoctorG
During troubleshooting, I found that the problem occurs when the hardware acceleration feature is enabled.
I would like to keep hardware acceleration enabled, but is there any solution?CPU: AMD Ryzen9 3900X
GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super -
In addition, I confirmed that the same problem occurs on another PC with no extension.
CPU: AMD Tyzen 5 5500
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6400Thanks.

@jsugahara happens to be too on different sites

@AsusDuo16
Hi, does this meant you can resolve it with disabling HW acceleration in Settings Webpages, too?
Then it is a GPU/driver/Vivaldi issue or a security software block/slowdown Vivaldi.
This happen often after Vivaldi updates, the AV software don´t trust Vivaldi anymore.
I don´t have any issues on Windows 11, my system specs are in my signature.
Please always check in a guest profile:https://help.vivaldi.com/article/guest-view/

i have disabled hardware acceleration
i need to use the browser for a day or so to see if it actually fixed the issue -
Happened to me quite often on sites like wikipedia, serverfault or stackoverflow. Disabling blockers does not do anything. Turning off hardware acceleration on the other hand fixed it so far thanks for the advice. Also opening the page in host mode works.
I am always at latest drivers but the problem persists both trought GPU driver and browser updates so it could be antivirus problem as mentioned above but what do you suggest @mib2berlin? Excluding internet browser from antivirus software doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
Intel Core i7-8700K
Nvidia GTX 1070Ti
Windows 10 -
@3WaD
This is true but you can disable AV software for a test.
There is maybe a kind of whitelist you can add Vivaldi, sometimes a simple reinstall help. It does not touch your user data except you want to. During removing Vivaldi it ask if you want to keep the user data.
But I guess it is a GPU/driver/Vivaldi issue as it work with HW acceleration disabled.
Do you use Last Past extension, too?Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
No am actually not using any extensions. And it happens only on certain sites it's not random. Both the author and I mentioned wikipedia, which is quite a simple site without any animations and stuff tbh. -
@3WaD
Hm, this is really strange, I can open Wiki and DeepL pages on two completely different systems, specs in my signature.
Please enable a flag with enabled HW acceleration:vivaldi://flags/#ignore-gpu-blocklist
-
@mib2berlin
Thank you. I'll test it. I personally have to wait a bit if that flag helps because while it seems that for the author the problem is consistent and reproducable every time, for me its consistent only in the domains. Not in chance of occurance. Sometimes it just happens when I google for code stuff, I visit some awnser on serverfault and boom. Broken. I usually just open it in different browser since at that moment I need to troubleshoot my code not the browserand I forget about it and then next day the same link can render just fine so I don't really know what causes this. I'll let you all know.

Right after the last post I tried to visit the wiki and it happened again so I decided to record the behaviour and add some more info. Here's how my Vivaldi renders it:
As you see the html and everything is there and able to interact it's just glitchy and not visible.
Refresh or no-cache refresh does not work
Opening the same link in a host mode window loads it fine but does not repair the page in the main window
Restarting Vivaldi completely repairs it and the page renders fine
I didn't notice this behavior in older versions of Vivaldi. Although I'm not sure how many patches before the current one. -
Just so there's another voice... I got this exact problem too and it's been some patches since but problem is still there. More than wikis, it also affects forums like unity forum for me. I'd say a good 90% of the time, and there was that time where going back in history and forth to refresh it (which almost always work) or closing/reopen it didn't work at all. Is this blink related maybe?
It's hard to recommend this awesome browser to not tech-savvy people just because of this issue... -
@3WaD Thanks. This is the one that completely matches my experience.

@Himeji
Hi, do I need an account to test Unity forum?
Reading different threads does not show blank pages.@all, please try this in a new clean profile, the developer always use clean profiles for testing.
You cant test in a used profile with 20 extensions nobody knows how they influence Vivaldi.https://help.vivaldi.com/desktop/tools/user-profiles/
Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin
I've cleaned my browser's navigation data including cookies and all so I made sure I wasn't logged in.
It happens nearly every time on both answers .unity and forum .unity
I've recently build up a new PC for a friend and recommended Vivaldi, but got the exact same bug as me happening on some wowhead .com pages.
Whenever I'll got some time ahead I'll try making a new profile but my friend's recent experience doesn't hint me this way as it was pristine.
