@AltCode Some instances show both stats (total/active). But I think active is weekly, the discrepancy is either because Vivaldi Social takes so long to update, or for some other reason I am not aware of. Total/active should be the same for Vivaldi right now is what I’m getting at.

@the1avi Yup, I'm fully aware of this. The instance I chose is small and dedicated to a particular interest of mine, so I have little interest in switching. That said, I am consciously aware of the risk of having your Mastodon account hosted on a smaller instance with a single admin...

Maybe you guys can help me, actually. Assume I merged my existing small-instance Mastodon account with Vivaldi Social. If the smaller instance shut down suddenly, what would happen next? And would the direction I chose to merge them make a difference?

@Crimsonshade My impression is that you would still be a member of Vivaldi.social, but I am still not entirely clear on the rules of a user merging servers. It would only make sense that the functionality of Mastodon would seek to preserve usership.

@ingolftopf Check it yourself, you only need to start the instance in a private window to be logged out, the home screen will show you the stats. But this stat only updates from time to time, I would try tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the tip, but I can't see it in my mobile, even when I'm logged out.

As a general rule there is everyone present in a forum from the extreme right to the extreme left and debates for this reason are rarely carried out in a civilized and cultured way. They are always conflicting threads that give mods a lot of work.
Even in debates on TV after a short time only counts who yells the most and who doesn't let the other finish the argument, less in a forum.
It does not make much sense to deal with these issues in a forum, at least not in a forum that is not specifically political for any party, in this one, of course, it will not make any sense with users from all over the globe, all religions and different political realities in their countries of origin.
It must necessarily be limited to what unites us, Vivaldi and topics that may have a general interest, computing and leisure.

No, that's not quite it. The problem isn't extreme views; much of what's mainstream today was once on the extreme fringe of politics. Simply holding an extreme political view doesn't make you a bad person, it doesn't make you impolite, and it doesn't make you incapable of being civil with people who have opposing viewpoints. It just means you reject the political ideals of your time.

The problem is much less where someone is on the political spectrum, and much more that some people can't play nice with those who have opposing viewpoints. Some people see disagreeing with them as an attack on them, and react to that "attack". It's not just in politics, but politics does seem to attract those types!

That's more a question for @TheQuantumAlpha , he's the one who accuses Mastodon of severe political bias. However, I have read some articles that suggest he's right.

Vivaldi makes it pretty clear in their code of conduct and in the server rules featured on Vivaldi Social what kind of content is welcome and what you can forget about.

A solution from the forums may also work: Discourage political talk altogether! I'm inclined to say: Discourage it more strongly than it's discouraged on the forums, send a clear message that politics is not welcome on Vivaldi Social.

That discouragement could be softened or removed later, that will always remain an option. But for the time being: Strongly discouraging political talk may be a good way to avoid any appearance of political bias, and keep Vivaldi Social from (rightly or wrongly) being seen as just Biased Big Tech 2.0.

There are people writing on the social.vivaldi.net Masodon instance who have not written anything on the forum and are having a harder time with it there.
Many also come from Twitter and are used to it from there.
Mastodon seems to be more accessible and easier to use on a mobile phone/tablet.
