May I ask how you came across Vivaldi?

Hello! I have been using Vivaldi for a few months now and it has been a great experience, I'm just new to the forums. Love the customization that you can do along with the privacy and built-in ad blocker. Also really appreciate having a .rpm package and the sync feature when I switched to Fedora.

@ETHRMF , but keep in mind that without having Crypto Tokens activated you will not be able to access certain Google services and without the Web Store brand you will not be able to install extensions from the Store, so it is advisable to activate these two at least if necessary.

@ingolftopf When I was using Edge as my daily driver I was searching for an chromium alternative since I'm not really a fan of Firefox anymore and some of the independent browsers I was looking into (Pale Moon looked interesting but I'm unsure about using it as a daily driver, GNOME Web/Epiphany seems to lack some features other browsers have and issues with websites, etc) seem to not be cutting it for me. I first discovered Vivaldi from a list of recommended browsers, and so far it's been a blast using Vivaldi. I do not mind the browser being proprietary (only the UI is closed-source anyways) since it has what I liked from Opera, Chrome, and Firefox and the Vivaldi Team looks like cool people.

@blumoophusky , the UI is proprietary but not really closed source, is auditable. The user can modify this part, but it can't be used for other projects or browsers.
Anyway, with the number of existing browsers (~100) and another 70 discontinued ones, it is quite irrelevant if a browser is 100% OpenSource or not, other more important aspects for the user prevail.

A few words about privacy, a concept often underestimated, but very important. It's not about a company knowing your identity, it's also about the fact that online privacy is often synonymous with security.
This is because many large companies create revenue with your data and activities on the network (surveillance advertising) selling this data to third parties.

From there, you can never be sure how these third-party companies treat and protect your data.
This danger has already been exposed several times in the past, leaking hundreds of thousands of user data, including medical and banking data.

This clearly shows that this argument 'I don't care, I have nothing to hide' is not valid, there are quite a few things that should not be in the hands of just anyone, except in the private companies that traffic in them.

For this reason several organizations and companies, including Vivaldi, are active in getting a ban on these practices of monitoring the user (Google even reads your mail in Gmail) by violating basic rights, which in real life we would never tolerate if there is no court order, and even then only by the authorities and not by private companies.
