It's been a long time coming, are we really going to stick with such a cheap and annoying feature?

VB-87722, which has been fixed internally just yesterday (I have yet to test this in a new build to confirm that it's working). -
Yes, finally the proper tab dragging method is there. But again, another half baked feature
If you drag out and drag back the tab, old dragging method is applied. -
@enc0re Yes, it changes to differentiate between two states: dragging the tab on the tab bar and detaching the tab when moving it to another window (or creating a new one).

I don't see the reason behind the placeholder idea. You can clearly see the target area, because of the mouse cursor. The other tab under the cursor just has to move to either direction.At least the tab should reattach to the tab bar or a stack and continue with the classic animation.
I rarely detach a tab from the tab bar, so this fix is fine for me, but I understand the frustration of others. This is still a bad implementation.

@nekomajin You can make a new request if you have ideas on how to improve this feature. Make sure it's not going to duplicate other, existing requests, like this one, for example.

I don't think we need a new request, because this one is not properly implemented. The old animation didn't have this issue, so the request is not finished. -
@nekomajin What issue? I just compared Vivaldi 3 with the latest version, and it's pretty much the same - with Vivaldi 5.2 offering better visual feedback when reattaching and merging tabs into stacks.

When you reattach a tab, the placeholder remains on the tab bar. Totally unnecessary and very annoying.The tab should reattach immediatelly, and we should see the classic animation again as soon as the tab is back on the tab bar.

@nekomajin I disagree, when we detach the tab from the bar we are able to stack it. The distinction between stacking and placing a tab is needed. Just don’t move it out, if you don’t want to see the placeholder, or better, move the tab with the provided shortcuts.

The tabs slide away when I move another tab above them with the mouse. It is clearly visible where it would be dropped without the placeholder.
