Solved Possibility to keep tabs for later / Set Aside Tabs / Reading List
-
@luetage You're really right. My intention wasn't to have something developed that would be a kind of duplicate of something already existing but just to have an enhanced user experience.
-
@pesala Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the link doesn't work and I can't find it manually in the webstore. Did the extension disappear?
-
@ornorm There is more than one session extension in the Chrome WebStore. The one I have seen referred to most frequently on these forums is Session Buddy.

Session Buddy
Quite nice! I could maybe install it awaiting to have the same kind of feature natively developed in Vivaldi
-
@ornorm You can never be sure, maybe it was just renamed. The search on webstore isn't very good.

I think the best thing is to have a system that allows you to save links to read later, grouping them by tags to search for them, personally I would like to have a "tab", as SpeedDial has it, where we can add, search and navigate between the saved items. Similar to what GetPocket offers, but native to Vivaldi
-
@brianerc Make a bookmarks folder called "Reading List" (or whatever you like to call it) and set it to use as speed dial. As soon as you do this the folder will appear as selectable speed dial tab. Since it's bookmarks you can, search/add/delete items.
-
But what would differentiate a "Read it later" feature from current bookmarks system or saved sessions?
I think "Read it later" could be a bookmark system with autodelete: after reading, a stored page should be deleted automatically when closed (with option to ask user before deleting, maybe a specific autodelete option: yes/no/ask).
It could be just a special folder within current bookmark system.
-
You can also simply mark multiple tabs and pin them, or move them to their own window first and pin them there. (or just keep 'em opened in the new, separate window if you do not want to close the browser before a deep dive anyway)
-
Bookmarks and reading then respond to different needs, so they should be separate functions. For example, Gmail, Google, Frequent journals, etc. are content that we mark as a bookmark, to which one wishes to have direct access because it enters frequently. However, what is marked to "read later" is because you do not want to have the same vision, nor do you like to combine the contents because they respond to different tasks. I currently use GetPocket and tag the contents, when I read them I delete them or simply file them on another label if they are going to serve me for the future.
In addition, the fact of being able to show them in SpeedDial in a different way than we have the shortcuts (for example, link lists simply showing their titles, with tabs for the tags could be a great addition). But be careful, I understand what you are saying, that in the heart of the function, it shares contact points with the bookmarks, that is, from a programming point of view, Vivaldi could simply create a folder in the bookmarks exclusively used for this function. , where the subfolders are the tags, and manage them transparently to the user. But for the end user, I think that the functions are perceived differently and respond to different times as well, it is not expected to interact in the same way.Regards!

Hello Hallker and welcome to Vivaldi!
You're right :
@Hallker said in Being able to mark some tabs for later reading:Also I am aware that this has been mentioned here at least in two duplicate topics.
If you're interested, you could upvote the following request and add the specific (and interesting - I like specific time schedule/machine) features you describe here :
Keep tabs for later. This, in order to make the requests grouped to give their more chance to be taken into account one day...

And discussion here lead nowhere
That's the magic with Vivaldi team. You never know beforehand how they'll surprise us next time.
So, personally, I wouldn't be as pessimistic as you.
(but I'm enthusiast by nature...) -

@Hallker You're totally right.
Just bear in mind Vivaldi team is a small team and their list of Feature Requests is huge (+ bugs) so they have to prioritize what they implement. It can sometimes be frustrating. -
When the forum tells you to make a new topic for feature requests, please ignore it.
(I have contacted the admins about this)

@Hallker FYI : I edited the first post to add your features to make them more visible.
