To be clear, Vivaldi is installed on the host machine, not inside a guest VM.
I can't think of ~why~ the Hyper-V service/platform would be interfering with Vivaldi at all, but - if anyone else is having this issue - seems like you can blame Microsoft for 1 more thing.

@luetage Thank you! Followed the steps - everything seems to be working fine now. I just moved forward with the new profile and reimported bookmarks. Really appreciate the help!

I checked and they are on the white list, now when I disable and re-enable the adblockers, I can deactivate without problems, it's weird

With the described logic and a function to determine OS (provided the script runs on multiple OSs) you can infer the "regular" profile path (for the current user) just fine.

Maybe you add a command line switch or environment variable to provide for standalone installations which can be absolutely un-findable as they can be stored anywhere.

This seems the best option - and someone who persistently uses standalone installations is bound to know about this and might be forced to "give up" his installation hideout 😉

The solution is probably to disable flash. The technology is on its way out and there are only stray use cases left for a minority of sites. I think it wouldn't hurt disabling flash for all sites and only enabling it for the ones you really need it on. Personally I ditched flash altogether some time ago.

@holebuyer After reporting a bug you get a message with the bug number. This is the confirmation that your bug has been entered. You won't receive feedback, if they'd write back to everyone they wouldn't have time to develop the browser anymore. But you can ask on the forum about a specific bug (include bug number) and maybe someone with access to the bugtracker will reply to you.

Run as a user and the browser has access to all the user files. Run as root and the browser has access to the entire system. Given the likelihood of any given browser being affected by remote code execution flaws, the number of these types of flaws, and the wide attack surface (nearly every web site should be considered untrustworthy in this context) it is advised to never run a web browser as the root user.

@elmaruser I did not in any way imply that I use Boolean logic. I was trying to convey that AV programs use it, and this leads to non-identical action from one environment to another. "No one can reproduce..." is merely an indication that the relevant variable is in the environment (your system) rather than in the software.

Avast! and others make up their mind, almost arbitrarily, what to block and what to permit. It is not possible to design software in accordance with the arbitrary rules of various security programs. Rather, security software has to figure out how to safeguard without messing up a user's system and preferred applications. As, to date, no software on the market has ever figured this out 100%, I quit using it over a decade ago and therefore have fewer problems than people who use it. But YMMV. Some people feel naked with an AV and an anti-execution suite. For them, we just have to try to let them know what factors may be affecting their experience.

The original codes for loading animation were being posted in the original modding thread. I haven't tried it yet, but if I remember correctly someone other than Isildur made a simple spinning circle which worked too.
