@mathewjordan If you come back or someone else finds this the 8010 error is a complete red herring it doesn't stop anything. When I tried to replace vivaldi with another browser I got the same issue of it not letting me login and then it struck me, I hadn't been asked to open the gnome keyring. For whatever reason the keyring was broken and deleting it so a new one was made fixed the problem. Now I can sync again. Remember this will remove all the keys in all the rings. If you have other rings then just delete the specific ring file not the folder.

sudo rm ~/.local/share/keyrings/

Aha, my first instance of putting my foot in my mouth. I don't actually have any stacks that high. Generally, 2-20 tabs (I will update my original post to reflect this) per stack, ~13 stacks. I just said such a high number because I figured if I said '2 tabs per stack' people would just say, 'copy the links, it is only 2 tabs.'

Although, even with just 20 tabs, it might be nice and help keep things clean. I'll try to look into this. Unless for 2-20 tabs it seems silly to have a separate session?
Also, I suppose this means that an automatic and non-external solution is not an option.

Now that I am digging into sessions a bit deeper, I see that they are a bit different than what I had imagined.
On Chrome, I had multiple users (one per project) but then each user session (not sure if that is the right term) would balloon to a few gigabytes of space just by existing, and with limited drive space that just did not make sense to me. I was fearful the sessions would have the same effect but upon reading your post again, I think that will not happen with Vivaldi sessions. It would just be a few kilobytes of additional data (at least from my initial testing).
I also thought sessions was like 'restore previous session' in Firefox, which would just restore all open windows and tabs previously opened and nowhere near as extensible as Vivaldi's feature, if I understood that correctly.

I'm guessing the location of the files on non-Windows OSes should be in ~/Library/Application Support/Vivaldi and ~/.config/vivaldi.
Are there any issues from sending the sessions between different OSes?

I was just thinking that the process means I would have to do this around twice a day. In the morning to laptop, in the afternoon to desktop, and hopefully not forget!
No intention of using a phone for this but just for brevity's sake, sessions are not possible with phone, right?

Haha OK, I start a Windows device and sync start immediately and my imported bookmarks are there, strange.
Now I have to check if deleting the import work, too.

I see in the "default" folder the file bookmarks and bookmarks.bak and I understand the .bak file is the backup file of bookmarks.

1- What would happen if I deleted the .bak file to save space? Would that create any Vivaldi function issues? Would the .bak file just be auto-generated as soon as I close and open Vivaldi afterwards?

2- Would saving bookmarks to html, as you suggested, be a separate backup to store for redundancy's sake?

Seems there were changes between Sync of 5.1 Stable and 5.2 Snapshots causing this.
And another device has PC-DEV

I do not know how such clientnames are generated, but i guess that is the strange issue i got with sync menus.
I try to investigate the next days.

@bk2020 Oh right - so you just wanted the settings and storage copied from one to the other...

Settings could be done (although in my case I really don't want my work laptops to have my personal mail and vice versa, and I only want mail on a couple of devices, so that definitely needs to be controlled) - mail storage would never be synchronised because you could be talking about gigabytes of data!

Edit: another thing I've been banging on about ever since M3 was announced is that we need simple import/export of mail messages (instead of the current uncontrolled mass import from some mail clients)... that would address your transfer of mail storage.

I finally put manually all files (Bookmarks, bookmarks.bak, Notes...) in all PCs, logged in again, and upload from my main station. It seems to work now, I just have mixed bookmarks folders sometimes, but now it syncs.

Just error messages about conflict errors on the server side, but it does not prevent of syncing. So hope it should be okay now.

I don't have an answer as to why it's not working for you, but for what it's worth, it works great for me!

@doctorg ya I also saw on the status site its showing operational but the sync is still not working properly, and my speed dial entries r getting messed up more and more, and also randomly vanishing.

May have just been bad timing on my part actually, https://vivaldistatus.com is reporting sync issues right now.

I'll give it some time.
