Solved V 6.7 | Context Menu | Rollback Font / Size
-
When I upgraded to Vivaldi 6.7, I noticed that the text size for the main menu, bookmarks menus, and right-click menu had changed. Now, instead of being the same as every other application on my computer, it's larger. Is there a way to change this? I find it very annoying, especially as it means that the right-click menu is large enough that I need to scroll to get to what I want practically every single time.

Hi, search for "compact" in the settings search field.

The laziness of the users is the last straw. The solution to the "problem" is in the second post and users have asked the same question 25 times.
Don't be lazy and start reading a thread from the beginning.

I'm merging the New Topics here.
AFAIK,
They has to be notified about the merged Topic. But,
They are not even looking at the 2 latest pages of recent Topics, nor searching about that before post. -
@Zalex108 All subforums simply need this little change:

@Zalex108 The problem throughout all these (10) years is the Main Page of course, nobody understands he/she should click on "Desktop" as long as he sees his OS underneath. It is perceived as a general Header/Title.
️ A quick mock-up about how it could be made more understandable...

What a bizarre name for the flag to fix this.
chrome://flags/#customize-chrome-side-panel
Doesn't seem to be related at all but it fixes the horrible new UI.
Now just a way to revert the font rendering back to how it was.
-
It would be mentioned at the Forum SubForum.
But,
On FR, with clear steps, it happens, many times the same. -
@BunxBun well fyi you 'll have max 2 months time with this one if V doesn't fix it, after that it will vanish and the new one will be the default.

It seems that a change occurred with the last update. When I right-click in a Vivaldi window, all the entries are spread out with excessive vertical spaces between the them. What this means is two things: first, I can't see all the entries in one glance, and second, I sometimes have to scroll through the menu to see the item I want. Right-click menus should always be compact to make them efficient.
Why have the developers made this change? How can I send them a message?

@CalebM All was answered in this current thread. Please read it.

I selected Compact but I am seeing no difference. Do I have to restart Vivaldi?
Okay, I restarted Vivaldi, but the right-click menu is only slightly more compact. They could compact it much more if they wanted to.

Thanks a lot. It works.
I am glad that Vivaldi team has found a workaround to the issue.
I don't know what chromium devs were thinking when they created and approved this change. Will just hope that either they will be forced to revert changes by community, or at least that the workaround will keep working. Using this new style menu is a real pain.Personally, my opinion is that the developers of programs do not use their own programs.

Agree 1,000,000,000% it still waste sooooooooooo much space. I've got a pretty good idea what the idiots at Chromium are doing and that is trying to set things up to be EXACTLY the same look no matter what device type you are running. That's the new norm now and just fuckin stupid. I personally do not want the same layout on my phone and or tablet as on my PC because of the difference in screen resolution alone.

You've got that right. Emby is a good example over have of their user base telling them not to design there TV apps like they do their phone apps for years and they still do.

@TheFrozenSlime
Hi, there are extensions to check bookmarks if the page even exist or delete duplicates.
I had thousands of bookmarks in the past and 50% was outdated anyway.
The company went bankrupt, the address changed or the site owner was dead.Cheers, mib
That should be a native function!

I am not sure what you mean by that.
The new menus may suit trackpad users better. A mouse is much more precise unless a user has poor motor skills.
Whatever, I am definitely in favour of being able to customise the space and Choose Fonts for GUI.
I use CSS for fonts in the URL field, Status Bar, and Tabs, but the menus are controlled by the Chromium Code.

Not to mention the rounded corners, gross.
Yeah the worst part of rounded corners in a digital system is that it's fake. The corners aren't actually rounded just part of it is hidden. Even phones with rounded corners are stille fake even though physically they're rounded, internally things are still calculated with sharp corners. Youtube went rounded too, ugh, well at least there are extensions that can restore the sharp corners.
BTW I really hate those scroll arrows! Every friggin time I want to do a spell correct now I need to scroll up 2mm. Well I did the compact layout but that still got me scroll arrows at times so I also applied a flag but as stated that option might not last all that long. This sort of thing you get when google started hiring way to many people for their constant update scheme which of course can't keep going as things settle into a finished product. So now all those people vying to keep their jobs come up with useless nonsense to implement just to make themselves still seem relevant.
-
Let's be practical. If the solution implemented by Vivaldi disappears, then what should be done is to modify the menus and leave only what is used, and in the case of bookmarks use folders.

Sorry I misquoted someone. I meant to quote the guy that was talking about extensions that automatically check if bookmarks are still going somewhere.
