Vivaldi has now become unusable. Everytime I try to open a link in a search I get the dead bird page. I've tried the links on other browsers and they work fine.
I've cleared everything I could find - cache, history, passwords, cookies etc, I've disabled all by extensions - no good.I'm using Windows 10 Pro 22H2
6.6.3271.53 (Stable channel) (64-bit)It worked fine up until a week ago - I believe that there may have been an update (?) and now it's just bloatware on my system. It's a pity because I did like it, but It looks like this is the end of Vivaldi for me, unless someone has any bright ideas.

@BristolPete
Hi, there was a bug in the first stable 6.6 but it was fixed with the update from March 20 but this is 6.6.3271.53.
[Crash] Following link from Google results (VB-104297)
You are the first user report this in the forum since then and I cant reproduce it.Please test this in a private window and/or the guest view, this except extensions and use the default settings.

It seems to be working okay today. I fiddled with a lot of things yesterday, but none of them seemed to sort it out.
Strange. -
But - I have it pinned to the taskbar, and now I'm getting another vivaldi icon on the taskbar whenever I open the app, and that wasn't happening before.
-
@BristolPete
Open Vivaldi, delete the old icon and pin the new one. -
Many thanks - I've had that problem before, but it's so hard remember the simple tricks to solve issues like this one. Thanks again.
-
I have the same problem since 23.03.2024. After a few left links, the "dead bird" icon appears.
Downloads also no longer work. The update to 6.6.3271.53 did not fix this.
Windows 10 22H2.-
I created a new Vivaldi profile (no sync) - no change.
As soon as the problem occurs, I have to restart Vivaldi. Then I can call up a few pages again. -
Then I completely uninstalled Vivaldi, deleted the Vivaldi folder in AppData, cleaned up the registry with CCleaner and reinstalled Vivaldi. Unfortunately the error still occurs.
Even vivaldi:/about shows the bird

@Herog What jhappen if you open cmd.exe
and type command
start vivaldi --disable-gpu
-
@DoctorG "vivaldi" could not be found

@Herog
Hi, are you om a Administrator account?
CMD should open on Users\username
There are two ways to open Vivaldi with command line switches, open the Windows Explorer and jump to location Vivaldi is installed. The default install is in:
Users\username\AppData\Local\Vivaldi\Application
You can check this from Vivaldi menu > Help > About.
Start CMD with the context menu.You can edit your desktop shortcut with the context menu:

Hi, are you om a Administrator account?
I had opened cmd.exe as an administrator. But don't understand what that has to do with Vivaldi.

I have now done and added the shortcut to
--disable- gpu
When I open Vivaldi over it, the mistake also comes. -
@Herog
I read back and you had already created a clean profile, did you leave it untouched?
No extensions, all default?
CCleaner can help but it can break Vivaldi too, can you exclude Vivaldi from CCleaner?
I don't use it since 20 Years or so anymore. -
Yes, untouched clean profile and no extensions.
I can call up about 10 new pages after a start of Vivaldi, then the bird comes. -
CCleaner is not executed, it was only used to clean the registry after uninstalling Vivaldi. Then I installed the latest version. The error appeared again immediately afterwards.
-
@Herog
This is really strange, I run 12 Vivaldi installs some with 2 profiles and I never saw this.
Just guessing, a third party software does this, we had this hundreds of times over the Years.

First of all, thank you for the help. Signing out for today, it's late.
I'll be testing in the next few days to see whether another program interferes.
However, I haven't changed anything in the last few days; the problems only started with the Vivaldi update. -
@Herog
Yes, this is the most reported reason, an update of Vivaldi.Have a good night, mib
