Request to bring Exit and Close confirmation dialog boxes to macOS
-
@sphera Appearance in what way? Why are you commenting that here? What does that have to do with the topic of my post about adding a Close Window and Exit Confirmation dialog boxes?
-
@dustinx33 said in Request to bring back Exit and Close confirmation dialog boxes and Why Removed?:
to frequently or rarely accidentally close a window or quit/exit
even if you often or rarely
close the browser, it always opens with the latest tabs. I don't use these confirmations. According to this logic, you need to confirm your every action in the browser. This is a dead end direction.
-
@sphera I know, I still want the Close and Quit Confirmation Dialog boxes. What was your first comment about?
-
@sphera I want to only confirm closing windows and quitting the application. That's all I want for now. I want to prevent the browser windows from closing and the browser itself from quitting with my confirmation of it. It's not a dead end, it's exactly what I want only for my desired request. It's fine if you don't want to use it or have it but to limit other users ability to have it isn't fair.
-
@sphera So do you know how to add a confirmation dialog window for closing and quitting?
And what did you mean by your first comment of this post?
-
@OakdaleFTL I just realized I got confused and mis-spoke and wrote command-W instead shift-command-W. My bad. I know they are different. Must have been thinking about command-Q and mixed them up and combined the key combos some way and wasn't thinking about what I was writing. I did write that it's shift-command-W to close a window in chrome, so I definitely knew what I was talking about. Pretty sure it's the same keyboard shortcut to close a window across all browsers on mac.

mac users who accidentally press the keyboard shortcut for closing windows aka command-W

@dustinx33 Not a problem!
You can -if you have time to spare- track my many confusions via the forum search or my profile listing of my posts... (The silliest was about the Picture-in-Picture size!
)
-
@OakdaleFTL yes, I am sure everyone mispeaks every now and then. I just noticed something, I don't know if it's a bug, and I a new to this forum, but it wouldn't let me edit any of my posts aka comments but now it is letting me. It used to say you can only edit within 3600 seconds of posting with a red highlighted window. It's not showing that now. Very strange.
Now of course it's letting me edit my posts.
Am I missing something?
-
@dustinx33 This is most likely due to the fact that your reputation is now 2. You can now also change your profile image
-
@sedative29rus Ok that's cool. I wish I knew that before.

Ppafflick moved this topic from Vivaldi for macOS on
-
Commenting to hopefully boost this because they still haven't added this. I don't know why.

@dustinx33
Hi, one reason is the request got no user votes since one Year.
If this not change the request even get closed.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin The feature is literally on Vivaldi for Windows and Linux, why not Mac?
I keep losing windows and accidentally closing Vivaldi on mac with nothing to prevent that from happening. As I'm sure other Mac users.
This is a basic feature that is already available on Vivaldi for Windows and Linux.
Mac should have it as well.
A lack of 'votes' on this forum just isn't a good enough reason.
-
@dustinx33
Does other Chromium browsers have this feature?
It's just one reason, the Vivaldi team want to have Vivaldi have the same features on all platforms.
You can make a bug report, the developers can decide if it get rejected or changed to a task.
Even the boss of Vivaldi use MacOS, it seems nobody need it.
To be honest I always disable these dialogues on all software, I never closed a window by accident.
Anyway:For information on how to report a bug, see this URL: https://vvld.in/how-to-report-bugs
Once that is done, please share the bug number (beginning with VB-).
Add your vivaldi.net username, please.
On the form, you can add your email address. Once submitted, you'll get a confirmation. You can reply to this with any logs or further info.Cheers, mib

@mib2berlin Why can't you add it for those who want it or need it and as you said to be consistent. It makes no sense that you add these two features to two platforms but not another.
Also macOS is much more common than Linux, I'm sure macOS users have the same problem as I have, they are just not as vocal as I am. Not just now but in the future. There is going to be more macOS users in the foreseeable future than Linux users, yet you only have this feature for Linux and of course Windows. It makes no sense.
All I'm asking is for a little consistency, to preserve my own data. It's also consideration.

@dustinx33
I am not a Vivaldi team member, I am a volunteer tester and work on the bug tracker to reproduce/confirm reports.
Just report it. -

Actually yes, in some way other chromium browsers have these two features wrapped into one feature. Brave has it. Edge has it. Even Firefox has it.
I actually prefer the way Vivaldi does it, by splitting the feature up for either closing windows or exiting the application. So I can choose either option or both. It's just only available on Vivaldi for Windows and Linux.

@mib2berlin OK I will report it. Thank you.

You want me to give you my bug number? Is that what you were saying?
