VSR (NVIDIA RTX SuperRes) breaks when switching tab in same window as video
-
It is still a problem with Vivaldi 6.6.3291.3 (Official Build) (64-bit) that's based on Chromium 122.0.6261.99

@Phobos
Hi, I have updated the report, this is all I can do.Cheers, mib
-
@mib2berlin thanks. I appreciate that
-
Same issue still persisting. Was going to start a topic on this but found this one instead. I like vivaldi but its annoying to have to duplicate an existing tab cos i wanted to click on a different tab for a moment. Chrome has zero issues.

@Nobody2 for me i found workaround, if open video in floating mode (picure-in-picture), and resize to big (or fullscreen), vsr activates and works while switching between tabs
-
@gooddha Are you referring to mini-player? Doesn't do anything for me. I tried the picture-in-picture extension as well.

It needs to resize floating window to big size, to activate vsr.
I found another workaround, if i open tab with video in separate window without any other tabs, i can switch tabs in main window without affecting VSR on that video-tab in separate window.

I have the same problem, but i was able to resolve it by disabling the "Use Animation" option under Appearance.

Thank you very much for finding this out, now we finally know why Vivaldi is behaving so strange. I have now also disabled the Animation and the issue seems to be gone. I do not even know what the "Use Animation" thing even does.... Maybe the Vivaldi Team can find the issue with your information. For now i will keep the Animations disabled then
-
@JanK
Thank you! How did you find that out?I confirm, disabling animation fixes the issue.
-
This needs to be fixed fast. I mean even Firefox now supports NVIDIA RTX SuperRes/HDR
-
I add the information about "fixing" the issue with disabling Use Animation in the Vivaldi settings to the bug report.
Cheers, mib

@JanK
Dude thank you so much -
Can confirm unticking "Use Animation" fixes VSR breaking when switching to another tab and then back to the video tab.
Also, since the other thread https://forum.vivaldi.net/topic/84343/vsr-enable-nvidia-rtx-superres is closed, I wanted to add an odd piece of information here in regards to VSR incase it helps someone else with a similar setup.
For me, VSR under Vivaldi just works on my desktop (single dGPU: 3060 Ti), but never my laptop (iGPU: AMD Radeon Graphics + dGPU: RTX 3050 Ti).
After some digging, the only noticeable difference was in [chrome|edge|vivaldi]://gpu
My laptop's Vivaldi has the following extra switch whereas desktop did not.
Driver Bug Workarounds [Vivaldi: Laptop]
- disable_direct_composition_sw_video_overlays
Strange enough, Edge also has this workaround applied, but VSR works. I suspect it's to do with their custom enable_ms_video_super_resolution_light_weight_ml_model function.
Driver Bug Workarounds [Edge: Laptop]
- disable_direct_composition_sw_video_overlays
- enable_ms_video_super_resolution_light_weight_ml_model
After I added following argument to Vivaldi's launch option, VSR became functional on my laptop.

--disable-gpu-driver-bug-workaroundsForgot to include one additional step I had to do in conjunction.
In Vivaldi, goto
chrome://settings/system
and switch on
Use graphics acceleration when availableFor my laptop, this was switched off prior to finding the aforementioned fix.

@bxfy1 This fixes a bug that Vivaldi will restart constantly when you run a YouTube video with VSR, HDR on and turn on full screen. Like for years this flag has been bugging YouTube and some webpages too, not just from Vivaldi. Thanks a lot!
If Vivaldi sees this please fix all these bugs. The Use Animation on option actually prevents NVIDIA VSR and HDR from running correctly. I had to use YT on Firefox for a long time until I found this post.
Edit: On second thought, I feel like recently Vivaldi and NVIDIA has not gone well since sometimes Vivaldi will restart sometimes when going to some webpages or just watch some videos. I did not have those experience in previous Vivaldi early version 6 -
This is a very old bug and i don't get why Vivaldi doesn't care about this. When you turn animations off everything feels laggy.

Hi, no new information about the bug but this setting should do exactly the opposite, make Vivaldi faster, and it does for me on different platforms and systems.
Maybe other user can confirm this.Cheers, mib

Now in the latest snapshot 7.1.3554.3 (and in that before) RTX HDR is only working in fullscreen and in PIP but not in normal sized Videos. This happens on youtube, twitch and everywhere. So it's now even worse.

Ok after seeing that here was no reaction I spent an hour realizing it's an only me problem because with a guest profile the problem was gone. Removing every extension, every page setting, cache etc. didn't fix it so i deleted my Profile to reset everything at the worst possible time(Serversync had an outage). But nonetheless...
If your RTX HDR in windowed mode is gone from one day to another and you turned Animations already off, resetting your profile may be the only solution.
