Infinite Canvas for Tabs
-
So, this is a little more out there, but I've been very into the idea of spatial desktop environments and spatial ui's in general.
I think it would be really cool to have an infinite, zoomable canvas to place webpages/tabs on and have the ability to group and logically arrange tabs and notes and whatever else together. You could have shortcut keys to snap to the currently focused webpage and a hotkey to zoom out to see everything.
An example of the idea if you want to visual it is Obsidian Notebooks new Canvas feature: https://obsidian.md/canvas
I think it would an incredibly unique way to browse for certain things, e.g. I can see myself using this for research etc.

@redrock Nice idea of a experimental UI, Vivaldi could get in some future

This is a pretty old idea - it would be interesting to see what a modern browser built with a "ZUI" would look like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zooming_user_interface

@redrock Hi! I just stumbled upon this page. You have a great idea!
I've actually had such an idea for many years, ever since I read about zoomable interfaces in Jef Raskin's The Humane Interface. And so I built one as a demo for my master's thesis:
The main purpose of the demo was to solve the problem of tab management. In doing so, I designed an infinite canvas where Web pages are freed from tabs/windows and are automatically organized.
The demo is only the beginning. I'd like to build a full version one day, and hopefully find developers to help.
If you're curious, you can learn more about it by reading my blog post or my Twitter summary or by watching my master's thesis presentation.
Thoughts?
